Mike, Nick, Nick & Alice on Hulu. This is Vince Vaugh playing the same character twice, but one is from the future and trying to save James Marsden, who happens to be sleeping with Vince’s wife. I liked it, my wife did not.
Prototype X29A on Tubi. From 1982, a weird take on humanoids replacing humans and humanoid hunters trying to destroy them. This is one of the worst acted films I’ve ever seen. Not sure what recommendation put it on a list, but I should avoid all their other recommendations. I give 1 star. The quality of the technology seems poor, even for 1982 standards. Rips off parts for Star Wars just for kicks and fails here too.
The Zookeeper’s Wife (Wonder Project via Prime) - Zoo in Warsaw, Poland becomes a form of “underground railroad” to get Jews out-of-town.
My biggest complaint is the addition of the unnecessary sexual tension between the German zoologist and the protagonist–especially since critiques indicate that this was exaggerated and the rest of the film was generally accurate.
Otherwise, it was a pretty intense movie and very well acted.
“Octopussy”
Last Bond I’ll watch for a while, until it shows up on another streamer.
Added far too much silly physical humor. Far more crutch kicks, bystander reaction shots, including animals.
Did the “riding on the outside of a plane” 30 years before Cruise did it. Including a fight scene up there!
Oh, and added a fake rule to Backgammon.
It violates the terms of a settlement, but also because the MJ Estate is behind the movie, and they were not allowed to make a movie about it (and, just because, they also were depicting the abuser as a victim, and the victim as a blackmailer). If someone else was making this movie, I think it might be more about the misbehaviors and less about the music.
Initial reviews of Michael have not been favorable: “This isn’t really a biopic,” Rolling Stone film critic David Fear wrote. “This is the Passion of St. Michael, rendered with great fidelity to and emphasis on both Jackson’s undeniable suffering and equally undeniable talent.”
But fan excitement for Jackson has still never wavered. Early box office projections show Michael is set to be a box office smash, ensuring the King of Pop will continue to reign.
If you are able to get past the alleged nasty stuff and want to really see his talent (although not as a “story”), I’d suggest instead This Is It, the movie that documented the rehearsals that led to a tour that never happened because of his death just as the tour was about to kick off. After his death, there were rumors of him being in a drug haze all the time, but this movie shows him instead to be at the top of his game, clearly running the rehearsals and appearing to be on top of everything. It’s a movie that makes it clear how very talented he was, and not just as a singer and dancer.
