Systematic settlement expansion in the West Bank, including the Government of Israel’s latest decision to progress the E1 settlement, as well as the dramatic increase in settler violence, pose a direct and urgent threat to that vision for peace.
One year ago, we recognised the State of Palestine. The time has come to take further action to uphold our commitment to protect the two-state solution, our interests and to stand up for our values, before it is too late.
Settlements are illegal under international law. The UK, France and Canada will therefore take steps to ban the importation of goods from settlements and enforce targeted measures against settlements and those who facilitate them or profit from them.

I think we knew that Bibi knew something was up before October 7 happened, I think a few people may have speculated about the depth to which he was informed and (intentionally) neglected to do anything. The fact that it’s being reported in more detail, and coming out of the Middle East, suggests there’s a shift in sentiment and whatever tolerance other countries may have had for what Israel is doing is at or near its end.
Will the people of Israel finally rise up and say “enough is enough?” The government has stood against all the prior protests, we’re coming up on 3 years after, I have doubts as to whether this creates enough fire and outrage that it finally breaks Bibi’s hold on power.
Agreed. Attitudes towards the US & Israel are hardening in the ME (primarily because without US & Israeli interference they would be able to come to an accomodation with Iran), and this high-level leak is clearly designed to cause maximum damage to Bibi before the Israeli elections this year.
Bibi is already in full damage control mode, and is now threatening to sue Haaretz (who broke the story).
