Israel - Hamas War October 2023

Are you suggesting, by analogy, that Israel should bless development of Palestinian casinos and franchises to sell tax-free tobacco, as a tacit “compensation” for past issues?

Oh, about those schools.

Agree with the UNRWA lady. If you want those kids to grow up despising Israel then keep following the same nonsencial policies espoused by Bibi and his extremist supporters.

What Al Jazeera won’t say is that Hamas was operating a training camp there, and that’s what Israel hit.
It also doesn’t violate the ceasefire, because the ceasefire says “From the specified time, Lebanon will prevent Hezbollah and other armed groups from conducting operations against Israel. Israel will not carry out offensive military operations against Lebanese targets.”
Since the target wasn’t Lebanese, it wasn’t a violation.

You clearly didn’t click the link, as Al Jazeera did specifically say Israel alleged there was a Hamas training camp there.

In this case, exactly. The terms of the ceasefire specify Lebanese targets. But I wouldn’t use the term “exterminating” - they were getting rid of terrorists.

Sort of like the current Trump policy: label anyone a terrorist, and you can just exterminate them.

You know they were bad people, a lot of people had problems with them, and things just happen.

Can we please stop pretending that this is a developed country?

Maybe it’s because the UN has demonstrated extreme bias through the entire conflict?

Despite promises to reform the education in Palestinian Territories, with payments actually made from other governments because of those promises, Palestinian children are still taught to hate Jews, and to glorify terror.

You realize there is similar evidence from the other side, right?

Care to share some? I’m not referring to a school run by some extremists. I’m referring to government sponsored curriculum.

Since it’s paywalled, here is an excerpt:
"The report says that Israeli and Palestinian teachers both portray their neighbours as enemies, though Israel does so considerably less. After ploughing through nearly 30,000 pages of text, the researchers found that 49% of texts dealing with Palestinians in Israeli state-issued schoolbooks are negative; in government-funded Orthodox Jewish academies the figure rises to 73%. One such textbook depicts Arabs as “bloodthirsty” and “a nest of murderers”.
In Palestinian textbooks 84% of the references to Israelis are negative. In both Palestinians and Israeli state schools the books promote “martyrdom-sacrifice through death”. Each side glorifies itself, while denigrating the other.

Moreover, the textbooks tend to deny each other’s existence. Of 800 maps of their contested land studied by the researchers, 87% of the Israeli ones mark none of the land between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan river as Palestinian"

This is from 2013. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was worse now, as racist rhetoric has intensified.

Being “developed” doesn’t preclude a country misbehaving.

C.f. the United States of America over the past 10 months.

The US is definitely regressing.

Just remains to be seen whether it improves once Trump is gone or not.

With Israel, the direction of travel points to increased extremism based on its current political structure, demographics, and the growing (and very violent) settler behavior in the west bank.

Its becoming increasingly like Iran: militarised, religious, and with limited freedom of speech.

Case in point on why Israel cannot be trusted anymore.

They have no interest in keeping their word (they did after all agree to the ceasefire conditions).

Its all about killing more Palestinians.

So… Israeli troops were in an area where, according to the agreement, they were allowed to be. Palestinians started attacking them. (Not saying Hamas, because Hamas is claiming that it wasn’t them.) Israel strikes the area where the attack came from.
Seems to be that Israel isn’t the one violating the agreement here.
Never mind that Hamas is also not keeping to the agreement - they’re still refusing to disarm, and are still holding onto the remains of some hostages.
Trump’s plan was approved by the UN the other day, but Hamas won’t accept it.
Who is the obstacle to peace and a Palestinian state here exactly?
