Israel - Hamas War October 2023

The Israel left and right are not so different when it comes to Hamas. Which is why the unity government was formed.

Thus when 1400 Jews were murdered, burned alive in their homes, beheaded, etc the response was pretty consistent.

Bibi might be at fault but I haven’t seen any Israeli newspapers really criticize him. There is a unified desire to get rid of Hamas.

This is why you will hear Jews say they will never forget. They won’t forget the Holocaust when 6 million Jews were killed. In their eyes this event reignites those old memories. And they are unified in their belief against Hamas.

It is certainly possible that Biden will change his tune to be more aligned with Europe. I don’t think the election would be the cause. It would be pressure from the left of his own party and the world. I don’t see the left of his own party voting Republican. If he loses the election it won’t be because he was too slow to adopt the world opinion about Israel.

80% of the country blames him. That is a pretty high number.

You are correct. I was not specific.

I don’t think if Gantz was PM that the approach would be different. Maybe I am wrong. I certainly don’t think Bibi is doing this for his career.

I can, however, see some D voters choosing to sit out the election, due to apathy or the perceived futility of voting.

In swing states, get out the vote efforts (and gimmicks to deny some folks access to the polls) are what ultimately decide the race.

The good news (to some) is that it’s still about 10½ months until the earliest early voting starts for the 2024 elections (although some absentee voters, particularly military, may get ballots before then). A lot can happen between now and then.

That’s fair. Could be why Hillary lost. Kind of ironic though if that happens.

Millions of Arabs believe this too as descendants of Abraham, and have also been living in the same general area for thousands of years. I think this is not in dispute by either side. Both Arabs and Jews have deep ties to the land’s importance for their religion.

Yes. I wasn’t arguing Jews over Arabs here. More trying to point out the Jewish side is not one of colonialism in their mind.

As well as trying to explain how the political divide in Israel is not as stark as it may seem.

TX?
Thinking CA.

I missed CA

Jews in Dallas

Not even close.

In the USA, the tri-state area is where the bulk are. I forgot Florida too.

I wasn’t trying to list every place. My point was there aren’t a lot of Jews and they aren’t living in a lot of places.

Agreed.
I just happen to know a lot of Jews in SoCal. Not all 1 million of them (more than Texas), but, say, a few hundred.

Sorry for my ranting. Just felt there was a lot of Europe perspective here. Which is certainly fair.

Then I went on a rant of my own perspective.

And in some of the places where they don’t live, people are sometimes uninformed.

Social experiment??

Eh, it’s just one guy who thinks all of the universe’s knowledge is encased in his brain.

I.e., a know-it-all.

A local didn’t want to see his synagogue fail due to declining membership. He had money, so he offered to pay others to move to the area. From the article.
