Depending on where the Tesla does most of its charging they might be cutting a material amount of CO2. An ICE puts out about 4.6 tons of CO2 a year. A Tesla charged with exclusively hydroelectric power will be responsible for putting out about 0.1 tons of CO2 a year.
On the other hand, if the Tesla is charging from a coal-powered source, it will be responsible for putting out about 3.8 tons of CO2 a year. So there’s still a savings in that scenario, but not that much.
