Or,
Killer came from the future, because this guy was going to be the next Hitler, had to stop him.
Anyway, someone planning this will be on cameras from the days prior. Probably at about the same time as this killing, just to see how busy it gets for his escape plan. Could check the Starbucks cameras, since he’s an addict.
So top theories
1 - disgruntled policy holder
2 - disgruntled current or former employee
3- hush killing so he couldn’t spill to the SEC on insider trading
4- wife knocked him off to not lose half in a possible divorce
5- had himself knocked off for reasons
6- time travel stopping next Hitler
Maybe the insured dies and had a large life insurance policy benefit that the beneficiary used to pay the contract. From the articles I’ve read about contract killings either being thwarted by the cops or the hitman being caught, it seems the payment amounts are not exorbitant, like $5K and up. It is really scary. I’d think (hope) that getting a professional or a really good hitman that will get away with it and not come back on you would cost a lot more than that. Maybe there is some survivorship bias in those accounts.
If I really wanted to kill someone personally (and I’m guessing I speak for most people here), I would do those things.
Seems like any reasonable? person would spend significant time (ie. months) working out a similar plan. Maybe it would be hard to work out the location of the target and cameras without leaving a trace but it seems obvious you would want to spend as much time on it as you do an actuary exam. It is likely to be the last thing you ever do, so you might as well try your best, right?
Likewise I’m not a gun guy, but afaik 20 feet is normal practice at a shooting range. Probably within the skill of many millions of Americans.
If I were executing such a plan, I probably would have made a point to significantly change my appearance while in the park – not only a significant change of clothes, but also perhaps coming up with some sort of a disposable fat-suit.
Disposing of the temporary gear in such a way as to avoid providing law enforcement with usable DNA or fingerprints would be the bigger challenge.
But only one of those hospitals is “in network” so how does that help me? I now need to know what the price at Hospital A is for me with my insurance vs what the price will be at Hospital B without insurance. And it is not usually that Hospital A is 60% more expensive on everything but that Hospital A is 60% higher on X, Y and Z procedures while Hospital B is 50% higher on procedures S, T and U. So I have to look at every procedure when I need it to determine which to use.
But the reason for denying claims is to save money and if you are not denying those last 6 months of life claims then you have less money for the other claims overall. Reduce those last 6 months of life claims and you can pay for a lot more routinely denied MRI’s.
