yikes It’s not every day that a CEO is just killed like that.

Police think it may have been a targeted hit.

I’ll be curious about motive.

My bet: Someone was denied coverage and family was aggrieved.

It’s frightening and puzzling. I didn’t see any mention of whether he had a family. I feel for them if he did.

I predict it’s going to be very difficult to find the shooter. Wearing a ski mask obscured their facial details, and heavy coat + backpack helps hide body shape. They’d be an idiot if they carried a cell phone. The backpack could have had a change of clothes. They were on a bike, so no ID from a car license plate or using the subway.

Given scant visual evidence, police will be looking for motive and the list of potential disgruntled healthcare customers will be huge.

From the looks of things, it sounds like he was under surveillance (based on knowing his exact location) and the shooter dissapeared into the crowd.

This doesn’t sound like a crime of opportunity coming from an aggrieved individual. Sounds more like a planned hit to me.

I would not be surprised if that shooter was out of the country a few hours later.

There should be enough surveillance cameras in NYC that you can go from building to building and follow his tracks

Almost certainly not a crime of opportunity

We used to live around the corner from there and may have even parked at that very spot

Maybe, but if he went in an area without a camera like under a bridge and changed clothes it gets more difficult. This also happened before sunrise. Poor visual ID initially plus a change of clothes in the dark sounds challenging for the cameras even in one of the most surveilled places around

I’m thinking if the eye in the sky had tracked him the whole time he might have already been apprehended.

Breaking News.

What are the odds, actuaries, that the perp is a disgruntled claimant who was pissed off at the system?

Zero.

This was clearly a planned hit.

Someone (somewhere) lost a lot of money or are connected to a person that got denied insurance (and then possibly died?).

Thats my prediction.

That was my first thought.

I think it’s insurance hate. Was about to go get some pizza, wish me luck…

Apparently police did find a cell phone at the location. Not sure if it’s the suspect’s.

The bike used allegedly was a rental electric bike. I have no idea how easy that might be to do in NYC without using a payment method that could be traced to you.

Was this on 5th Avenue? Someone once bragged about being able to do that and get away with it.

You said Zero and then agreed with me 100% Did you mean Zero percent chance that it’s not?

Sorry,

0% that it was an individual that was denied coverage.

This was a cold and calculated hit. People who are angry at the system don’t generally behave that way. They want the entire world to feel their rage.

But someone connected to the individual is a possibility.

Someone who felt the loss of a loved one (extended family for example), and then had the capacity to plan this out.

I still think this is money related (financial) but I can see someone taking revenge based on the loss of a family
friend.

From memory there’s a 45 minute window before you get overtime charges on the rental. If the rental wasn’t stolen I assume they would need to get changed before returning the bike, so time might be a little tight. Otherwise they would incur overtime charges, which would be rare at that time of morning. Come to think of it renting a bike at that time of morning would also be rare.
