Usually not a calorie counter but when I see a large frozen treat at the ice cream shoppe that has 1200 calories it does give me pause
“I guess no dinner for me” is what I pause to think about.
I remember when I read that a Frappuccino had more calories than a Big Mac, that I stopped buying them (Frappuccinos, that is)
I don’t count calories, but when I wasn’t super hungry at the restaurant tonight I did opt for the small portion because I recognize that I have no willpower and would have eaten the entire standard portion if they’d put it in front of me, even though I didn’t actually want that much.
The small portion is like $1 less for half as much food, but it’s just not worth it to get more than I want. Yes, yes, I could have gotten a to-go container and taken half home but… not the path I chose.
At one of my local places that I get take out from, I’ve taken to splitting my entree in half when I get home with it and put that straight in the fridge b/c I know otherwise I’ll end up eating it all in 1 meal instead of 2.
Mmmmmm, mocha frap… ![]()
The problem is when you’re dining in they don’t bring you the box until the end. My stepmother’s solution is to bring her own Tupperware to restaurants, which is also more environmentally friendly, but more hassle than I normally want to deal with.
When I order I often fully intend to get the to-go container and take half home to have for lunch the next day.
80% of the time I end up eating all of it at the restaurant. The other 20% of the time I eat between 1/2 and 3/4 and take the rest home in the to-go container. Though of those 20%, 80% of the time I end up eating the remainder before bedtime and don’t have it for lunch the next day. No will power and no beach bod, more like a beach ball for a bod.
Well I don’t have a beach bod either, but I’m currently moving in the right direction at least. The number on the scale keeps getting smaller, the clothes keep getting looser…
Well, not today. Today’s pants are a touch snug, but that’s because they are brand new and a smaller size than what I had been wearing. The old ones were just falling off me and I really can’t wear them in public any more. (I literally have two pairs of pants that are identical except for the size.)
But I will keep on losing weight and soon these will be loose too.
I have never looked at calories on a menu. I have also never had a beach bod. Correlation might equal causation.
Man, I had a beach bod* when I was in my 20s, but age and childbearing are cruel. I’m not sure I’ll ever get back to the body I had in my 20s but maybe I can asymptotically approach it. First step is to get back to the body I had in my 30s and I’m getting pretty close to that.
*Well, a body that I was comfortable being seen in a bathing suit anyway.
Looks like the 20’s for sure, right DTNF?
Heh, my grandmother actually had several really cool bathing suits from the 1960s that held up amazingly well over the decades and which I wore sometimes after she decided that she was no longer going to wear bathing suits.
They were fun and I always got compliments when I wore them. Especially the textured solid black one that had a lace-up front.
Similar to the photo, but it had a texture to it. And pointy boobs. Every one of her bathing suits made the wearer’s boobs look pointy.
I can’t even remotely imagine a bathing suit lasting 40 years now. They don’t make ‘em like they used to.
I miss my 20’s and 30’s when my maintenance calories were around 3500/day.
This is how I (try to) eat. Portion control instead of calorie counting. My diet is still shit, though, but I’ve been a steady weight (at least in the mirror) for a couple years now.
And, I guess, fortunately, I cannot eat nearly as much as I used to. My wife used to get mad at me when we’d go to a party and I’d go up for fourths and fifths. Now it’s two reasonable plates and I’m nearly full.
Dinner time, too. I used to house at least 3 plates of food. Now it’s more like one and a half.
I should be losing weight, but I’m not as active as I used to be. But, the more I’m active, the more I eat. Vicious circle
