Incest

probably, but the responses show how the general public views incest and it’s very negatively.

Yeah the person I know who was molested as a child has a LOT of issues resulting from that. Maybe they’d have some issues anyway, but I bet nowhere near as bad.

If anything, I think unwanted sex / sexual contact might be even more awful for males than it is females. Because in addition to all of the “normal” issues, there’s also the notion that the male was supposed to be strong enough to fight off the unwanted advance. So his masculinity is called into question in addition to everything else.

Well, suffice to say that this thread is not about unwanted sex/molestation/rape. To me those are always wrong, as they’re not consensual. Nor do I really want this thread to be about whether or not teens can consent to sex. That can be a thread on its own.

Is it that, or has the media drilled into us that we are bad people if we don’t accept it?

Which media? All the media? The entertainment media? The advertisement media? The news media? The religious media? Some subset or mix of the media types listed?

I think it’s also that people are more and more inclined to accept that people should be allowed to do whatever they want as long as they don’t harm other people.

But then again, I’ve only lived in liberal bubbles, so what do I know.

I think with incest it’s often difficult to determine consensuality. Someone brought this up earlier.

That’s not really a reason for a complete ban though. It’s hard to determine consensuality in a BDSM relationship too, but we allow it.

Eh, there are certain types of relationships where we deem a person incapable of consenting because the power dynamics are just too lopsided. Some examples:

prisoner / prison guard
student / teacher
child / adult*

*With slightly varying definitions on what those mean

I’m ok with most forms of incest falling into that category.

Student teacher date all the time, when they’re adults. Child/adult is fussy, and deals with age of consent which is another can of worms, so let’s skip that.

I don’t know about prisoner/prison guard, seems like a very fringe case and perhaps has more to do with an employer/employee relationship.

Also, student teacher and prisoner/prison guard and adult/child all expire with time. If two people are in love incestuously, no amount of time can elapse for them to ever be together. A ban on it seems cruel.

But incest relationships are purely about the relationship, sexual or emotional connection. Provided that both people are of age, not sure why we would disallow it. If we are in the business of telling adults they cannot possibly consent when they tell us they are consenting, I find that rather problematic.

Well, broadly I agree with you, if adult siblings are in love, then go for it. But again, I don’t think there’s much demand for that.

You mention that there’s a lot of incest porn, but my guess is that most of it would involve major consent issues in real life, and in fact its popularity is driven by the consent issues.

Are you saying most of the interest in incest porn has to do with the fact that consent is usually lacking in these type of situations, and that’s why people are turned on by it?
Interesting take. I can see an overlap with that, especially given how popular rape porn is as well.

But I think there is a decent population of porn watchers that are genuinely turned on by the idea of incest, but turned off by non-consensual porn.

Not watching incest porn, I can’t say. But I think there’s a lot of porn where the ‘victim’ is willing, but not legally able to consent.

I don’t think that kind of porn is technically allowed. The “daughters” or “sisters” have to be at least portrayed as 18+, or with their age hidden.

That’s why porn has to advertise as “barely legal”. If they had their way I’m sure they’d be blasting “teen” and “underage” all over the place.

To give an unrelated example, I’d say teacher-student porn is driven significantly by the power-dynamic which makes it nonconsensual.

So saying “what if it is consensual?” sort of defeats the purpose.

Is incest even prosecuted for this to be a discussion? It will never be accepted as not disgusting, but prosecuted beyond age of consent laws? Didnt think so

I dont mean porn

that makes sense

Prosecuted? I have no idea the percentage of known or highly probable cases that go uninvestigated / unprosecuted. But it looks like it is generally illegal except for adults in New Jersey & Rhode Island with slightly different definitions.

I think they can say “teen” as 18 & 19 year-olds are simultaneously teens and adults. Granted, I don’t spend a lot of time looking at porn so I’m not an expert.
