Oh wow, do we disagree. Raw beef is fabulous. Sometimes, when I’m making stew and I start with a big chunk-o-beef and cutting it into cubes I swipe a couple of the interior cubes and just eat them. Raw beef is sweeter and beefier and just better than cooked.
The first time I tried sushi I was scared, and thought it would be gross, but then I put the fish in my mouth…A nice fatty piece of yellowtail is soooo good.
I once was at a buffet in Japan with a lot of white people. They served scallop sushi, and few of the people there were willing to eat it. The boring spaghetti ran out, but I gorged on delicious fresh raw scallops. Yum.
You can have the cooked stuff. I’ll go with raw.
(although I did enjoy some nice spiced stewed fruit with lunch.)
Undecook - Overcook. both jail. watched that last week. love that episode
Just had sushi tonight for a send away.
Mmmmmm so good.
Had 4 course omakase, all sushi.
raw scallop, raw shrimp, uni, marinated roe were the unique ones. The other ones were all fish. There was a tuna 4 eats with toro.
mmm steak tataki
and cutting it into cubes I swipe a couple of the interior cubes and just eat them.
Jeezus. Do you file your teeth to? ![]()
I guess it DIDN’T tell you everything you needed to know, then…
(Whoppers are gross, see the worst candy thread)
Whoppers have the same texture but taste wise are a disgrace. Maltesers (if they’re made in the UK) are amazing.
For all you sushi dislikers out there:
cooked salmon (medium) and raw tuna for me.
Respect: It’s a Wonderful Life is a classic life insurance movie. It even includes a layman’s explanation of the difference between cash value and death benefit. We watch it faithfully every December.
Is this a compliment that you copied my post?
It’s a small world, after all.
Since it’s being discussed as a great option in the best Halloween candy thread: I have never eaten a Take 5
Can we use our estimated AO age?
I am over 20 and I have never done IANAL
I’ve seen all but 10 of these; and NOT familiar with only 4 or 5.
Growing up, only had access to 4 TV stations . . . unless it was snowing; then it was like only 2.
One of these stations that we’d get regularly was an independent channel (out of Denver, CO) that had WGN out of Chicago the primary programming channel (i.e., Cubs game were shown whenever they were playing). Saw most of these movies on this channel–so watched them with commercials (most of the time).
I did finally see Godfather, btw.
It was free (with ads)… as nature intended. Reminds me of growing up, watching all sorts of movies on TBS, as VA mentions. I grew up in Georgia, so TBS was our go-to channel.
I won’t call out the seared ahi tuna haters, but I made this for the first time a couple weeks ago and it was amazing. Crispy, slightly sweet on the outside, tender, moist perfection on the inside.
To me, I did overcook it maybe 30-60 seconds each side. This was my SO’s first time ever having it, so probably a win overall since she enjoyed it and I think she needs to ease into it a rare steak.
I cooked it 3 minutes a side on medium high heat, so more than seared for the purists. But I was happy with it as a first effort.
We had 5 TV stations but that was only because we got both the UofU (on Channel 7) and BYU’s (on channel 11) PBS stations. Though I started school before Sesame Street premiered so there wasn’t much on those stations that we watched. NBC (on channel 2), ABC (on channel 4) and CBS (on channel 5)
We had 7 channels of VHF:
CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS and
(These were all local channels that eventually became part of)
Fox
The WB/UPN
The CW
We also got a few UHF channels that did not come in very well at all. Mostly PBS stations farther afield and one or two Philly stations. And channel 68. I’m not sure where it was based, but it showed stuff like the Uncle Floyd show and cartoons like Speed Racer and Hercules. eventually, I think, it turned into some sort of music video channel.
We did not get cable TV until like 1994 or something.
IIRC, in StL in the 70’s and early 80’s we had the three networks (2/4/5), plus PBS (9) plus 2 independents (11 and 30).
