After the election TIL interviewed Biden’s ICE Chief of Staff, to guess at what Trump’s ICE guy could do. Obviously it’s speculative, but I found it interesting.
Tldr, they could potentially deport 1 million? immigrants in the first 100 days, focusing mostly on single adults, countries that will accept flights, possibly including countries the immigrants aren’t from. Using workforce raids, militarized police, and maybe placing them in crowded tents, jails, warehouses. Maybe raiding schools and churches. And trying to take advantage of political and institutional pushback.
In short there’s a lot of rules in place that could be revoked.

Editorialization: the Trump admin was trying to dump non-Mexicans into Mexico and they refused it.
I have no definitive proof, but reading between the lines it seems to be very probable.
If that’s a reference to the first post… I don’t think that’s an accurate characterization.
The feds wanted to fly folks to Guatemala, possibly with a stop in Mexico (perhaps to refuel?), and Mexico closed its airspace to the flights.
Y’know, I’d read earlier articles and didn’t read this updated one. I knew “plane was not allowed to land in Mexico; previously, two planes bound for Guatemala had landed there.” It wasn’t known this plane was also continuing.
Have the deportations been nationwide? The only two I’ve heard specifically mentioned were NJ, which was the first, apparently, and Chicago today. Is that just based on the sparse version of the news I read or is this a specifically annoy-the-libs tactic? It seems kind of weird in a way that he’d focus most on the areas where they least want them to go, but then I suppose that doesn’t seem un-Trump-like, either.
Also, I suppose he may have pressure to avoid red states with big business in immigrants (Tyson plants, or something like that?).
Columbia denied landing permission for flights returning deported Columbians. Trump is throwing a temper-tantrum as a result.
I’ve seen references to activities in several city/state subreddits that I follow, but I’m not certain to what extent those activities are real (as opposed to confusion or hysteria), or if there’s a bias because I’m following a non-random set of subs.
I suspect that stuff’s happening in many locations, if not “nationwide”.
Seems pretty expected, though. Especially since I doubt that Trump/ICE is paying much attention to who should go back to where. I expect that next he’ll try loading them on commercial flights and will totally f up any foreign travel to and from the US.

I canceled my subscription, so I don’t have a gift link / can’t personally read the full article…but the headline and lede caught my eye:

Switzerland and Canada are just processing not growing btw
Thanks. Cause I was what the hell? Where are they growing coffee here?
This is imo the most bizarre and horrifying thing trump has actually implemented. Rounding up people in the streets. Full actual wtf.
And they countries turning the flights around, great. Except I’m concerned about Trump’s over reaction n to being snubbed publicly like this.
Lets not rule out general incompetence on the flight thing. Wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t communicate the usual protocols because it’s a new team and I’m sure they “knew what they were doing” and all that. Biden probably gave them something like a 48 hours notice and list of passengers so the local authorities could be prepared to do something with them, you know some minimal courtesy to flying in a commercial flight dumping off a hundred people.
Trump team probably thought it worked just like bussing people from Texas to Chicago, you could just drop them off on the corner and drive away.
I’m sure Americans will be happy to pay more for coffee because Trump is either incompetent, an asshole, or both.
I thought he was supposed to be bringing DOWN prices?!?!
Well, he’s supposed to be like Jesus, too, so…
