Plane tickets to Boston for a spring break trip with my sons.
That’s pretty much the same one we have. It’s the right size for our living room layout. Been pretty happy with it - probably 2 years old
Sound went out on the 5 yo big screen at home, and the sound bar is laggy. If I were smarter, I might be able to fix the lag. I might just buy a new TV.
Would a new sound bar fix the lag?
It seems sporadic. Watching now and no lag.
Was at Costco tonight and there were 65” ranging from $350 to $2000.
Are OLEDs still the high end? Not that my TVs are particularly high end, but I feel like I would want to upgrade to something like that, if I were to upgrade. They look fantastic walking in to Costco. That price differential is just crazy though.
On Consumer Reports, of the 113 65 inch screens they reviewed, the highest ratings are exclusively Korean brands. The first non-Korean brand, Sony, comes in with a score of 85.
Debating buying a pressure washer from Costco. They have one on sale for $99 (-$100).
This would replace a 20+ year old gas washer. It’s lower at 2400psi and 1.16gpm, so at the very low end for sidewalks/ driveway, but perhaps might be just as strong as the gas one is at its current age? It’s been adequate but seems like it’s lost power over the years.

Better to have one and not need it than…
Looking for a plastic mat for under my chair. Current one, bought in 1AC, nearly six years old now. Crumbling.
Got a (medium?) plush carpet, so that might have caused the rapid wear-down.
For plush carpet, looks like $100 or so.
Wait, checked my son’s former bedroom… took that one. No lip, and I think one with a lip will fit better. So, wait another six years.
Consider getting a glass one. I bought one July 2020 for $60 and I love it and it’s certainly not falling apart. Several options on Amazon for $70-$100, very smooth.
Glass ones are now around $300 or so. I’ll look around a little more.
An NPR t shirt. My wardrobe is looking a little bit threadbare, one. And two, I figured they could use a few extra dollars from me.
Bed and mattress. I can’t remember when I bought my current mattress, but I’m guessing it is decades past when I should have gotten rid of it.
look into memory foam. after decades of the buying mattress racket and spending thousands, we dropped 250 bucks on a memory foam. it’s a magnitude better than any other mattress. no kidding, every night I stretch out and say ‘best mattress ever’.
If you go to the mattress subreddit, there are discussions of basically a DIY foam mattress. You figure out how firm you want to go etc and order 2-3 sheets of latex, and zip a cover around them. If you order parts and it’s not quite right, replace a layer. It’s cheap.
Despite a pretty good track record with DIY projects, my wife thought this was a bit silly. We got a Leesa hybrid and it’s been very nice. I think it was like $800 from Costco.
Toaster oven. For toast and lovingly reheating things like fries and pizza.
Long ago, I bought an internet-compatible thermostat (Honeywell), so my wife could change it to her liking from bed.
However, I had FOUR wires instead of five.
Old thermostat had batteries, which allowed full use with only four wires (HVAC is pretty old).
So, I read the instructions a few times on how to make four wires work. Was in that “analysis paralysis” mode, not wanting to take the old one off and try to put the new one on, only to discover that I burned the house down of that it simply would not work.
Basically, I’d no longer have the ability to run the fan only, which I sometimes prefer to do.
So, I hooked it up anyway (wife told me to, so I had an out when the house burned down), no sparks anywhere, so, success!
I think I could live without a microwave before I could live without a toaster oven.

Just a small one for the kitchen.
