I am going to buy this (these) today and reasons why

not sure if I am stating the obvious and ruining the joke, but I assume he meant the E goes in Whiskey,
and I hope it didn’t get younger.

btw, looking on-line, seems like a very good price

DTNF was correct. Most American whiskies are spelled whiskey, Makers Mark being a notable exception. Other places in the world spell it whisky. Whiskey is the correct spelling for Pappy.

And when I said $1000, I meant in the thousands, not exactly a thousand. Was it a good price? I don’t really care. It was a one time purchase for a (knock on wood) one time event.

Real question is: is it THAT good?
I’d expect a BJ to be included.

I’ll let you know after I open it.

You’re gonna OPEN it??

(And, can you wait until I get into town?)

It’s getting warmer, time to paint and stain the porch. We just dropped $450 at the Benjamin Moore store, ouch. I mean, it’s less than 1% of the total price for the porch, so maybe I shouldn’t say ouch.

How often will you be saying ouch? Is that a yearly job?

Paint should last 12-15 years, stain will need re-applied every 3-5 years or so, the porch is covered so the decking will get shade, the stair treads may need stained every 2-4 years but that’s a small job.

I once owned a house with a really nice backyard deck made of cedar. Damn, that was a PITA to upkeep. Every 3 years, power washing, sanding, and re-applying. It was 800 to 900 square feet, so it was a lot of work.

Yeah, we had a 12x12 deck once, not bad to maintain. This one is 300 sq ft but it’s covered, I’m hoping the shade will buy me an extra year or two between having to stain it again.

I am happy that my cedar deck has been replaced with aluminum and plastic. About a third of my deck avoided the mid-day sun and the stain held up pretty well, but that exposed end was pretty much crap after 2 years. It was a pain in the ass and I usually did a pretty shit job just trying to get it done since the window to do it between spring pollen and summer heat was short.

I may live to regret this. If it were a normal house I’d have done Trex and called it good. But I’m trying to respect this old place by using more appropriate materials.

I have a flight of steps and all the wooden railing around it. Nothing i can’t easily reach, but it just never looked that nice so there wasn’t much satisfaction to have. The prior owners picked a color i didn’t like and i was kind of stuck with it unless i wanted a major project to get it all off.

I enjoy painting inside, but i hated staining that deck.

You could nearly afford half a bottle of whiskey with that.

So I am only staining the decking and stair treads. Everything else will get painted white. So probably every other year I’ll need to hit the stair treads (3). And then every 3-5 years look at the decking. The boards on the south side will take a lot of sun, hopefully between the roof, railings, and furniture most of the decking won’t get too beaten up by the sun.

My daughter’s birthday request was a hatchet multitool, so I ordered one today.

I need new luggage. I can typically travel for a week with a medium-sized bag. I will always check a bag—my CC has a free checked bag with American Airlines. I’d like to get a nicer set of a big + a medium-sized bag. Sam’s Club has a sale on luggage, but they seem pretty cheap. Anyone have a really nice set that they can recommend?

Do you like your current medium-sized bag? Might be better off just getting a nice large bag.

I have a large samsonite now, which is a huge upgrade over the older 2 wheel roller it replaced. Brand probably matters more if you are traveling a lot and need something to last.

I like travelpro maxlites, but I only have it as a carryon.

I typically carry on regardless of trip length. However sometimes I need to check a bag due to contents. I bought a Rimowa polycarbonate bag that has to be checked over 20 years ago, and it’s survived many trips. Still looks good.
