I am going to buy this (these) today and reasons why

I’ve decided to pass on heaters, the budget has already exploded since we
a) decided to do the sidewalk now,
b) opted to do a total of 24 8"x8" decorative wooden pillars (12 on the main floor, 12 on the roof for decorative railings) which was not a cheap design change, and
c) we are going to paint the whole house.

Adding heaters would be a few grand for the equipment, and either a good amount of plumbing work for gas heaters or upgrading the whole electrical panel to do electric (hard no). So if we decide that we want to be out there when it’s chilly, I’ll just get a propane space heater thing (along with some propane accessories, I tell ya what).

Had mine on for a baby shower this past weekend. About 30 people (wife’s family and their friends). Very nice (except for the warm beer and warm wine). And put the shade down to block the sun which irritated me for a good 20 minutes. Might have to get a darker shade of shade. Maybe grey. I’ll check which of the 50 shades is optimal.

Remind me, you wound up getting the screens from Lowe’s or Home Depot? What brand, and how do you like them? I think you posted that somewhere but I don’t know where.

Who would ever want to own any boot/shoe that is over 12 months old and smells like old foot sweat? The reason you buy new shoes/boots is because of the stink factor. WTF invest in something that should be disposable?

My youngest work shoes are 7 years old at this point. I own shoes that are around $350-$700 and they hold up really well. I do have a cordovan pair that was $600 which I expect to last a lifetime.

As far as smelling bad, you know you can like, clean them right? They do need regular maintenance to last that long.

Plus cedar shoe trees. My old boots don’t smell bad. Still smell like leather. And cedar.

Oh yeah those too. My whole closest smells like cedar.

Definitely one or the other. Gonna go with Lowe’s. Hard to remember, because the two sets of Lowe’s and Home Depot nearest me are within a half-mile of each other (and ten miles from me).
They are Coolaroo brand.
But, they have very few sizes. length top-to-bottom is not an issue, but the widths my patio is make them difficult at the moment to tie down. The winds we have could easily rip them apart (they stay rolled up during the winds). Getting custom-made ones would have been 10 times the cost, and I’m not sure how long they would have lasted in winds. I have strong magnets weighing them down, and I might need twice the number of them if keeping them down in the wind is a need.
I got three of them for about $400. Installed them myself (patting my own back). They have a crank and not the auto-roll, because the auto-roll won’t hold up the screen with the magnets.

If I wore the same shoes every day for 12 months, I’d likely wear them out in other ways than the stink. As it stands, I have 5 pairs of shoes, and some days I don’t wear any of them (slippers in winter, nothing in summer, cuz WFH). You wear them once, you air them out. A week later, they fresh again, assuming it is not a shit shoe.
And I’m not even one of the OCD types here regarding shoes. Just common sense. Sure, I like to stare at them…

also, i’m guessing this week I’m going to be buying a new electric control panel for the house. the current one is 50+ years old, and every time I’ve had someone come take a look at something in the past few years they see the name and this “Oooh, I don’t wanna touch that thing” look in their eyes. Now I’ve got a circuit that has gone bad somehow and the first guys today didn’t even want to try and diagnose until the box is replaced. Ugh. I just paid off my air conditioner in October!!!

Apparently I need a new water heater for my condo. Got a message from my renters today.

My water heater is having difficulty lately. Haven’t made the move to have someone out yet, but it’s about time. It’s an early model tankless, and I’ve had contractors remark on it still hanging around.

You mean the panel with all the circuit breakers? If so, then yeah, that is gonna cost you a few thousand bucks.

Reminds me, we have managed to get about 85% of our knob and tube wiring deactivated, at some point I need to tackle the last two rooms.

I miss having free family electricians live nearby. Both T-bro1 and T-dad are ones.

FilterEasy subscription. I think this’ll help with reminding me to change the filter every 3 months. I noticed I missed the July filter change.

Oh good! I forgot to post how mine was going, but very well. Did you end up getting one at Costco?

Ive switched from using 1” thick filters to 2”, if a 4” would fit I’d get those. The extra thickness means more surface area, so i can change them less often. I can’t find them locally, so I get them on Amazon, I wonder if I can set up an auto purchase every 3-6 months.

My furnace filters are 1". I also have the air inlets (return air?) filtered with like 1/2" filters. I should probably check those as well.

Home Depot had the same one with a special on installation. So I just got it from there
