Hunter Biden Investigation

Fauci, anyone involved in any of the lawsuits, including those who sued and the witnesses.

I would be ok with Biden giving out a pardon to anyone that Trump’s crew have gone after publicly.

I am hoping Biden does that. It’s obvious that Biden should defang Trump before he gets in. He should include anyone he even slightly thinks Trump will go after. Put it in a template and just brainstorm names.

Gives Trump justification to pardon those involved in Jan. 6.

He probably was going to do it anyway. There has also been a lot of threats to the current FBI director Wray because of those prosecutions. He should probably be pardon as well.

Trump will do what he wants to regardless of what Biden did. He doesn’t care about justification.

This is part of it. Maybe provoke some indignation the way the GOP is always trying to do to the Dems.

I am not saying he wouldn’t pardon them anyway. What I am saying is that he will bring up Hunter Biden when he announces the pardons.

Of course.

I’m more or less onboard. Trump is ridiculously vindictive and I don’t think it’s fair to leave Hunter at the mercy of the courts under Trump.

I wonder if it would be appropriate for Biden to pardon Trump, to say that “you’re obviously guilty, even if you and your voters have abused the system for you to avoid facing justice”.

Less room to critcize Trump.

It’s kind of sad that it appears reasonable to use the pardon power to give some protection from political retribution. I’m neither cheering for the pardon nor that sad about it, given the way things are.

Have you ALL lost your minds?

Go scorched earth and damage the rule of law because of something Trump MIGHT do? Which, by the way, he specifically DID NOT DO to Hillary. This pardon is legal but wrong. Frankly the expansive language may not even be legal. Handing out preemptive pardons? That just invites massive abuse later. Do whatever you want, especially if the boss is on his 2nd term. You’ll get a pardon before the investigation ever gets anywhere.

The BS NY conviction is bad enough. It should be overturned on appeal as the legal theory behind the prosecution is novel and highly suspect at best. That’s before you consider the fact that the DA ran on prosecuting Trump and the FEC declined to bring charges over the issue. Talk about having your man and looking for a crime that fits.

I’m not thrilled with the Hunter Biden pardon, but when your foe says he coming after political opponents in a big way and you have sitting members of congress echoing the threats on opposition, I’m thinking a few preemptive pardons might not be the worts thing to do.

Of course if Trump really wants political retribution, a few pardons is unlikely to stop him.

Make sense since they are basically his children.

I’d agree in principle.

However, Trump is a monster. He has repeatedly suggested vengeance against his enemies and rivals, which is already too fucked up. The fact he didn’t actually “lock her up” would not be much comfort to me if I were Biden. You never know when he’s going to follow through on his vile promises. The main things that stop him from hurting people are political and institutional hurdles-- but these things are fragile.

If I had any history of opposing Trump, I’d be getting out of the country right now. It might be fine, but it’s not worth the risk.

Also, I’d rather test this legal theory now rather than 4 years from now. Maybe just extreme cynicism on my part, but I expect Trump will try this same maneuver. And if the SCOTUS has already come out against Hunter, then they won’t be able to favor of Trump, probably.

Now that he has his apparatchiks installed in key places, and he controls the GOP structure, I would definitely be concerned.

It’s too much of a risk. Scotus or pro Trump judges are too unpredictable. The Attorney General is also unpredictable. These are people who have shown a clear alligiance. You only trust the law if you can see impartial arbiters of the law.

Also we are also not aware of any activities behind the scenes that may have informed Biden’s actions like what the Trump team requested as it prepares for January.

That ship has sailed. Republicans destroyed any credibility our justice system had in the last few years.
