How safe will you feel when vaccinated?

I wish you a rapid and painless hair removal!

Painless is impossible, even if 5% lidocane cream it’s barely tolerable – but rapid let’s hope!

Well I’m out at a bar. I am not enjoying it. It’s loud and crowded and the last year has cured me of any desire for this atmosphere. It’s my sister’s birthday otherwise I’d be in bed for the night.

If it has a downward impact on the ratio of passengers to boat-size then I’m a fan.

A lot can change in two weeks. Cross your fingers!

Um I’m going way sooner than 2 weeks, so likely stuck with the mask unfortunately

Oh, I thought you’d said Memorial Day weekend, but I must be remembering wrong.

Regardless, things are changing rapidly, so they could yet change where you’re going.

oh no, memorial day weekend is my birthday and when i’m having some ao friends visit. i’m less concerned about the mask mandates during that than the vacation.

You must have PM’d the invites on AO? Could you re-send? My account was lost when AO went supernova.

it’s only 2 people, not a big gathering.

gonna see campbell too on my birthday that sunday though. if you wanna join you’re welcome!

I wonder when CircleK and 7-11 and the rest of the quicky marts are going to start banning masks again as masked bandits increase?

I went to Costco today. The majority of people were still wearing masks, but there were a few without. One thing that surprised me is a few employees were maskless as well. The greeter at the front entrance, which makes sense, because he’s practically outside, but also a couple of checkers too.

I think the mask wearing is going to be a tough habit for many people to break. I’m seeing many people either voluntarily wearing a mask or complying with the mandate because they don’t have all their shots yet. Even outside on a warm sunny day.

It’s going to reach a point for me where enough people aren’t wearing a mask that it will feel like I’m signaling I’m not vaccinated by wearing mine.

I made a handful of trips this weekend and this is what I observed (mask mandate ended Friday, blue/purplish state):

Regional discount grocery store chain: Mask signage gone from the door, 75% of employees maskless (pretty much all the stockers were unmasked, where the checkers were masked), 90% of customers masked
Regional upscale grocery store chain: Mask signage gone from the door, 100% of employees masked, 95% of the customers masked
Target: Mask signage still at the door, 100% of employees masked, 95% of the customers masked
Lowes: Mask signage still at the door, 100% of the employees masked, 80% of the customers masked
Local nursery/greenhouse: Mask signage to go inside. Outside employees 50% masked, outside customers 25% masked. Inside employees 100% masked, inside customers 90% masked

As a favor for a friend, I drove her step dad to the airport yesterday. Just a couple of weeks ago, driving an acquaintance to the airport would have been unthinkable, let alone with no masks, sitting in the front seat. But, we both have our shots, so it was totally fine, totally normal.

I’m still antibody positive from my infection in January.

I went to a tool rental place Saturday and they had no signage for masks. None of their employees were masked and none of the customers I saw were masked. I didn’t mask either but I was also not within 6 feet of anyone but the clerk who helped me and we stood there for less than 5 minutes.

Still not going out all that much, though.

You guys heard much from work yet on going back in person?

Still radio silence from my firm, although I heard EY is going back fully.

They’ve said they are starting to evaluate it.

Massachusetts to end all remaining COVID restrictions, including mask mandate, on 5/29.

The state will be at 70% adults with 2 shots by then (some of which will still be in their 2 week ‘waiting period’), so this makes sense.

You know, it makes no sense to me that we are reporting stuff by “percent of adults”. Kids catch covid. Kids can spread covid. We should really be monitoring everything by percent of total population.

I think they are reporting %adults to make the numbers look better.

If they want to make the numbers look better, I’d rather they add an estimate of the number infected-but-not-vaccinated to the number vaccinated. That’s much more relevant.
