I also prefer to deal with it in person if the wallet has a lot of cash. Unless you happen to live in Japan, cash tends to evaporate between you handing it in and the owner receiving it (unfortunately).
My wife & I once found a wallet when we called a taxi in Valletta (Malta) while we were going to a winery from the place we had booked in town. It looked like the wallet had slipped out of a pocket from the last rider of the taxi (taxi driver had not noticed it).
Normally, I would have given it to the taxi driver so they could hand it into the lost & found but the wallet had a lot of cash (about £1,500).
Malta is a very popular place for older English folks to holiday, and the older folks prefer carrying cash over using cards, so I decided to see if I could back-track the owner by calling airport security and asking for them to call the person via the loudspeaker (airport is not big) given the taxi driver told us that he came from dropping off the people at the aiport (so i figured they got there 2h before the flight most likely).
We managed to reach the airport in time and reunited the wallet with its owner (by a whisker as their flight to London was about to be called). The owner had been in a group trip and was very thankful (he also wanted to give me a finders “tip” of £10 which was a bit embarrasing. I told him it was not necessary but he insisted. My wife had a good laugh over that one).
In any event, agree that person to person (if possible) is usually preferrable over involving any intermediaries (police specially).

I gassed up the Vespa and washed and waxed it, she’s looking really nice. We had a false start to spring but I think scooter season is here to stay this time.
Need to change the oil but I forgot to order a filter.

my state MN has a program that my daughter’s HS is a participant in and I just learned about it. Next fall (sr yr) she will be told that based on grades and course through jr yr that she is guaranteed accepted to a list of 55 schools if she applies to them. contains all but the 3-4 most competitive schools in the state (including privates). when you apply after being told, the app is free. that should be a relief for the whole house.

I found a wallet on the street in my neighborhood. Address on id was not that street. Didn’t find a phone #. It was a teenager. Police Station is across the street from my neighborhood so I took it in. They asked where I found it, I told them, they looked at the id and said, “Yeah, we know this kid.” The way they said it I gathered the kid had been partying a bit too hard the previous night. I don’t recall them asking for my name, but it was a long time ago.

We bought a house. Interest rates are awful, but renting is worse. Applied for a 15-year fixed rate mortgage, plan on refinancing if rates come down.

I remembered my happy thought: I had a check-in at my Little Free Library! When I checked, 5 more books were taken than left. I’ll restock this weekend, although there are still plenty of choices.
I pulled out a book for my mom last night bc she was in town and I thought she would enjoy it. I told her she could pass it on when finished or she could give it back to me.

My favorite artist, Owl City, wrote a song about one of my favorite movies, Cast Away, from the perspective of Wilson. It makes me happy.
I haven’t listened to Owl City in a while. Nor watched Castaway. I like this song.

He just released a new album maybe a month ago, Coco Moon. It’s not everyone’s taste, to be sure, but I always find his music uplifting and moving.
