First it’s brownie edges, next thing you know, you’re eating raisins.
I’ve posted something similar before. Want. NA and JFG don’t know what’s up.
Yeah , I saw one on that site that caters to geeks. Can’t think of the name right now…thinkgeek…wtf?! Acquired by GameStop?
Googled “think geek brownie pan” and found it on Amazon among other places:
That’s the one that I remember.
That looks a lot like a maple syrup evaporator. Just smaller.
The sap starts at the top of the maze and is boiled down to syrup by the end, there’s a tap at one end to draw it off.
Not mine, but mine looks.like that.
So I’ve been doing some FP&A modeling for a thing we’re working on for our Medicare Advantage business, we’re trying to get better outcomes for people with kidney disease. The rest of my team is all public health and epidemiology people, the smartest people in the room types. But they don’t think in terms of dollars and cents very often, so they are absolutely blown away at my model. Which took me all of an hour to put together, and I feel like they want to give me an award for this.
I knew a guy in college from Rhode Island, his family made syrup every year. They had a very old house with a big pot belly stove and they used that to heat the syrup on the stove, the whole house must have smelled fantastic for a week or two.
My n-th cousin m-times removed made maple syrup…talked about tapping a plethora of trees and how the drip drip drip of all of them at the same time made a cacophony of sappy music.
(I think it was 1st cousin, one generation removed…iow, my dad’s cousin.)
We just landed a £3bn-ish mega deal after months of work.
Breaking out the bubbly
Congrats on the CS purchase
My relative has quite the operation where the taps pipe downhill into holding tanks and every few days he empties the holding tanks into a bigger tank that he hauls around with a tractor back to the sugar house. The sugar house has an bigger tank outside which is situated higher than his evaporator that looks very similar to the one SL posted and gravity allows the sap to flow from the holding tank to the evaporator.
Evaporator has an electric blower but it’s wood fired. He also collects downed trees on the property and splits the logs to feed the evaporator. Very impressive to a city slicker like me. But the output is heavenly.

I mean, it was RIGHT THERE
Girl Scout cookies arrived yesterday. 7 boxes for us, 7 for the town food bank. Off to drop them off now.
Got the email to renew my Global Entry and TSA Pre. Followed recently be the email that I got auto approved for five years and don’t have to do anything except pay for it. Woohoo!
Sons gf has moved in now. Our dog not only didn’t eat the cat, but gets along with it. That was a real concern given what my dog will do to a squirrel.
Bonus, gf is fitting in well too. It’s a lot louder and more going on than there used to be and I miss the peace but she told my spouse that her anxiety is gone since she moved in, so that dismisses any of my uncomfortableness with changes to our lifestyle.
I’m sure the food bank will be happy to receive both boxes!
had a whole Happy Day!
- slept in! 2 extra hours which doesn’t happen often, so I just allowed it guilt-free.
- had a good run at the gym
- got to read on the porch for an hour in the fresh air and sunshine
- played a game of Magic the Gathering and won with some really cool interactions within my deck
- made an outstanding pot roast with loads of vegetables, everything cooked perfectly; enjoyed dinner with the kids
- watched Jumanji with my daughter, laughed lots
- done with all my chores by 10:15.
so, yeah, really good day. makes me happy.
