Happy Thoughts

There was a bad one a couple of towns over: the tiramisu was very unimpressive. :-1:

Back from my son’s wedding to my new daughter in law! It was awesome.Just terrific. and fun.

We flew into kalispell and the wedding was in a town adjacent to Flathead Lake. That area is beautiful.

We were just in that area today. Spent the night in Lake Macdonald lodge in glacier national park and drove along going to the sun road. Drove home via Flathead Lake.

How was the tourist level? I’d like to go in shoulder season sometime for hiking when there are fewer people to battle and spring is usually too snow covered.

There were a few delays here and there and definitely busier than my last time there, even though it was a Monday in late September. We didn’t try to park at the top and there were people parking 10 minutes down the road to hike back to the top. It was pretty seeing all the leaves turning (mainly yellow). Personally I preferred going in early season (I think it opens in June) when there is more melt and the waterfalls are fuller.

It is a lovely area. And you could also go a bit farther north where the scenery and weather are similar. And a US dollar goes further in Canada.

A great car-free winter holiday we used to take was Amtrak from Vancouver to the Izaak Walton Inn in Glacier National Park. The hotel had its own train stop so you just walked to it from its train station.

The nordic ski trails started from the Inn. We usually brought our own skis but the Inn rented skis and snowshoes. Beautiful trails.

I just googled the Inn and was saddened to see that this fine old railway hotel closed this year. Hopefully it will re-open but there may be some other old railway hotels operating in Glacier National Park.

My son is getting married next weekend, so happy thoughts. They’re basically eloping, only 14 people total. It’s at an AirBNB, the two of them are making supper for everyone, I’m bringing folding tables and folding chairs, we’re having a campfire afterwards. Awesome.

Except now I have to put together a speech I guess. Nobody’s asked, there isn’t any ‘speeches’ but I feel like it’s my responsibility. Sigh. Speeches are always my responsibility. And I like to lead with a joke, so now I have to be the funny guy too lol.

No best man speech?

Those are the best roasts.

Yes. It is the Canadian extension of Glacier National Park.

The Prince of Wales is THE place to stay if you want to get excellence at a good price in the offseason. Not much over US $200.

Although there are no glaciers left in Waterton, aside from a few expanses of eternal snow, the landscape has been greatly shaped by the Wisconsin glaciation.

Wisconsin’s famous!

Nope, no speeches at all. They’re basically eloping. The two of them, my spouse and I, my daughter, her husband and child. My sister, brother in law, and mother. Then her mother and father, brother, and grandmother. That’s it. parents, one sibling on each side, and the grandmothers. The grandmothers are there to sign the paperwork. They want to get married in 2 years, but are doing this quick ceremony so that both grandmothers attend and aren’t, you know, dead.

So no best man. I’m not even sure that her father will say anything. Either way, I’ve got to do the deed.

I took my wife to her 55-year high school class reunion. It was pretty fun. The dinner was excellent.

They had a list of deceased classmates posted. The lady who keeps the list was lamenting that 93 of their 350-member class are “no longer with us” now. I felt obligated to comment that it was probably not far from average (for a group of 18-year old California kids to be gone after 55 years). :face_with_hand_over_mouth:
