Happy Thoughts

I like a good BLTx sandwich, but usually no x needed. Sometimes I skip the L, sometimes also the B; a T sandwich can be pretty darn good.

We were at the store and my kid saw a box of Paw Patrol snacks, which, of course, interested him. So for the rest of the visit, he was singing a “paw paw paw” song to the tune of Peaches En Regalia. I raised him well, obviously.

You had me until you skipped the B. That’s the best part!

Kids singing at the store is terific. Last month a 3 and 5 yr old sang a hundred verses of wheels on the bus at my target. They were so happy!

Bacon is pretty good! But the best tomato is far superior to the best bacon.

Really craving a nice mutton, lettuce, and tomato sandwich right now, you guys.

Yes! The singing is not atypical for my son, but the Peaches En Regalia part was what had me laughing. It’s not even close to your typical singing-in-the-store choice.

Great to see the city hall in Brisbane, Australia bathed in red white and blue for the 250th. I know the relationship between the two countries is going through a rough patch right now but hopefully it will come good and last for another 250 years.

Happy 250 America. I’m enjoying this morning in the North Pacific on the coast of south Maui.

It’s been about six months, so I made a hair appointment. My hair has always grown fast, and I have a lot of it. A little less fast, and a little less volume as I’ve gotten older, but still a good amount. So it’s definitely overdue. It will be good to get it trimmed, although I’m still growing out the length for now. Might as well, while I can.

Jaspess had bunion correction surgery the other day, so I’ve been taking care of her and the house and fur-babies while she’s recovering. At one point last night I had a thought that made me smile. This is what marriage is. It’s not the feelings or adventures, it’s being there in the most difficult moments and helping each other through them. It makes me glad I found a Jaspess that sees it the same way. :slightly_smiling_face: (Jaspess I had … a different view of what marriage is. But that’s a different conversation for a less happy thread.)

Our national tax agency (CRA) gave me a pleasant surprise yesterday for the first time ever.

Since my son’s cycling accident, I have handled his financial matters, including tax filings. He accidentally over-contributed in 2023/24 to his TFSA (like a Roth IRA) and was hit with a large tax penalty. He immediately paid it to avoid additional penalties.

I helped him to appeal the penalties on the grounds that the CRA website could mislead an individual taxpayer into thinking his contribution room was more than it actually was. Two years later they have reversed the penalties he paid with interest added.

Very fair on their part and I am happy about it!
