We aren’t checking out of our hotel today, but it’s Christmas so we left a tip for the housekeeping crew, and they left us a really nice note! I’ll still give my usual tip at departure.
I love Brazilian Christmas parties.
My in-laws threw a big bash today for lunch with catering and a band at their house in Rio to celebrate Christmas for the extended family.
Just got back home in Rio and I am so full. Had way too much lobster and tomahawk steak (thank you for having a Brazilian BBQ with all the trimmings) and am so full…eek.
Merry Christmas everybody. I think I need to digest my food and drinks for the next week.
We went to a Japanese steakhouse for dinner and my kids didn’t really like it. But, they were pleasant and polite despite that and it made for a nice evening. I would like to have more of those.
I’ve wanted a plant in my office for a few years now. My spouse is sort of in charge of those things but we don’t have plants in the house because they kill everything.
But this year they were dumping the calla lillies and I grabbed one and brought it into my office. added an led light because ‘canada’. And the thing has skyrocketed.
I cooked up some arbitrage opportunities for my clients that are sometimes substantial. They often save substantially. For me, the repercussions are that the sale gets split over a year. So I get paid for a partial second sale.
Sent an email this morning on one of these arbitrage things, boom, $2-$3k in commission for doing nothing. So that was a nice way to start the day. (well, doing nothing. I did the work six months ago).
We were at my in-laws the day after Christmas. They have a basketball goal for the kiddos, cool. Except all of the balls are flat, I figured I could remedy that in five minutes.
We found a crappy hand pump, it won’t generate enough pressure. So I go to the barn, I’m told there is a compressor. My FIL’s barn is an absolute shit show, I rooted around for 20 minutes trying to find the right bits to make it work, nope.
I gave up, drove into town and got a new pump at the hardware store for $14. Aaaand, back in business. The kids were out there shooting hoops for three hours until it got dark. Nice win.
I’ve actually got two battery operated compressors in my truck. And a battery booster. And a cordless impact drill with sockets to fit rims.
I’m ready for whatever.
Those things pop up like weeds all over my yard. They look nice though.
That could buy you and the Missus a lot of REEEEEEEEEAAAALLLL vanilla beans!!! ![]()
Ozempic and Wegovy lose their market exclusivity in Canada in January. Generic pharmaceutical companies will launch their semaglutides then. Canadians not covered by drug plans will appreciate the lower prices as will drug plan sponsors.
Wait, what? Are drugs separate from your universal health care?
Yes. It is left up to the provinces to provide supplementary drug plans: some do some don’t. The insurers provide drug plans to employers and individuals where there are coverage gaps.
There had been a push for national pharmacare by the Trudeau government but that died.
Oof. My daughter regularly administers cancer drugs that are more than her annual salary (to be fair, some are custom stem cells). Are those expensive chemo drugs or CAR-T treatments covered?
It depends. My province (BC) has a “catastrophic” drug plan that has a deductible that varies by income. Its formulary is pretty broad.
while those are drugs, they are administered in a setting (usually IP, possibly OP). In the US, those drug charges flow through the IP/OP billing. So for Medicare, would be covered by parts A or B, and not flow into D
this will bring back a lot of nostalgic “drugs shipped (illegally) from canada”!
like cook says, the provinces all have catastrophic drug coverage. if your drug costs exceed about 4% of income, the provincial plan kicks in and covers you.
seniors in Ontario and likely other provinces have govt coverage.
outside of that, most employees have coverage at work. in fact when Canadians talk about health insurance, they mean drug coverage.
so in the end, most people have drug coverage in some fashion.
I’m self employed so I don’t specifically have coverage. however rather than buying a reimbursement plan, I just bought stop loss insurance. which, I don’t even know if it could actually pay - by the time I qualify for the deductible I’d likely qualify for the govt coverage.
but good news on the generic ozympic. I’m in it, 400 bucks a month causes complaints from my spouse lol.
I will be interested to hear from you how much that decreases when the generics arrive.
