Our over-the-stove microwave got weird about a week ago. It would stop halfway through heating something up, buttons wouldn’t activate …
I was going to try to fix it. Maybe a new circuit board or whatever. But I realized I’d have to take it all down just to access the screws to take it apart. So we decided to ditch it and just get a countertop unit, and put in a range hood where the old microwave was.
For yours I would probably just live with the blinking light, as long as it still works otherwise.
PITA installing the hood, but it’s in there and looks good. Gives me more room over the stove too.
The last of the dead trees (of which the first took out sections of my chain link) finally fell all the way down, so replacement project in on. Neighbor up the street took out some of the same style of chain link, left the pile for the city to take away. Finally planned to scavenge what was useful from the pile this morning (it had been there about a week) this morning. Bulk truck is coming down the street as I move the pick-up truck to the pile, but she was nice and let me grab what I needed before scooping the rest up with the claw. I helped by picking up the small stuff and throwing it in. Win-win!
The part arrived this morning. I installed it and now the microwave is working again and was able to have a warm lunch.
I recently replaced the battery in my son’s car which was way harder than it should have been.
I can be handy and grew up with a mechanically inclined father who fixed everything and I got to hold the flashlight or get the tools for him when he did so I know I can do these things. But I always come away with an especially good feeling when I do actually do it.
I had to have a battery replaced about 5 years ago and the fender had to be removed to get to the battery. Thank goodness for AAA. No, not the actuarials, the other one.
neighborhood golf match. 4 of us have gone since 2008 or 2009. took last year off for someone’s cancer treatment recovery. this year we returned with 2 vs 2 team scramble golf. my team won big, shooting 1 under for 9 holes. partner and I both played really well (her not surprisingly; i have more volatility). Fun morning!
There once was this local place called Nancy’s. It was a small diner joint in the heart of my neighborhood, a short walk from the university. They served iconic meals, including a chicken & noodles dish. They closed a few years back, and tried to keep their operation going in another location, but eventually closed down. It was a shame, because they did a lot for the hungry underhoused population, including serving free hot meals from their pickup trucks every weekend in a parking lot. No questions asked.
The recipe was sold to another local restauranteur and they are now serving the dish. May go check it out soon. It’s not as close as the original location was, which I could walk to, but it’s not too far.
Since we’re in Happy Thoughts, you’ve got me thinking of Nancy’s Pizza, which was originally just about a mile from where I grew up. Nancy’s was locally famous for taking Chicago deep dish pizza one step further - stuffed pizza. The original is gone and sold, but there are some franchises that keep popping up (then disappearing) in the area. I need to make a short roadtrip to one.
