Went to Ace for light bulbs. Managed to remember I needed a new snow shovel. Usually I’d forget it until we get a blizzard and need one, and they are sold out.

I’m 46, so in a few years I’ll probably need one.

This one is sufficient for me (short driveway) YNMV:

I’ve got one of those, but corded. Wore the first one out during warranty, they replaced it last year.
Not sure how long it’ll last because I’m already smelling rubber burning lol. And the handles are humped already, I’ve got to do some repair to them before I use it again.

Things I like about it. First, plug and go. No more gas/oil and trying to start something with a carburator. And it’s a lot lighter than the tank I had before. And, because it’s on a cord, I only have a cord long enough to do my driveway and sidewalks. No pressure to do the neighbours.

When I had gas powered, I used to do 6-8 driveways every time it snowed. Then I had an accident and hurt my back, I was laid up on the couch for 6 weeks. That left my spouse and pre-teen son to do the shovelling. Which, they did, since my next door neighbour who also has a gas powered snowblower, didn’t do mine. Since I wasn’t doing his driveway, he’d fire his up, do his driveway, and then put it away. While watching my spouse and son shovel.

From Claude:

Yes, this is a true story that occurred at Fenway Park on August 8, 1982. The young boy was Jonathan Keane, who was 4 years old at the time. He was hit in the head by a line drive foul ball during a game between the Red Sox and the White Sox.

The incident is well-documented in baseball history and local Boston media. Jim Rice’s quick action in carrying the boy through the dugout to the Red Sox clubhouse where he could receive initial medical attention, rather than waiting for paramedics to make their way through the crowded stadium, was credited by doctors as potentially saving the boy’s life due to the severity of the head injury.

The story has been verified multiple times over the years, including by Jonathan Keane himself, who survived the incident. Rice has rarely spoken about it at length, consistent with his handling of the medical bills quietly and without publicity at the time.

This incident is often cited as one of the most memorable examples of off-field heroism in baseball history, and it was mentioned during Rice’s Hall of Fame induction as an example of his character beyond his athletic achievements.

The image shown in the post is indeed from Rice’s playing days with the Boston Red Sox, though I should note I am only describing the baseball uniform visible in the photo.

for about the last month I haven’t needed my alarm to wake me up. i’ve been waking naturally about 15-20 minutes before the alarm, waiting a few, and then getting up. That feels good.

A.large corp im the insurance/ benefits sector is in acquisition mode. They just acquired a large retail investment company, one where I really respect the owners.

So largecorp says to their new acquisition, we need to acquire someone for life insurance. Buddy says I know just the guy. Aaaand, I got a reach out today to see if I’d be interested in acquisition. Maybe?

Budweiser’s 2025 Super Bowl Clydesdale ad now available online. Not as good as some earlier ones, but still a happy thought. Also the 2002 ad, referring to 9/11.

I am half a pound from a BMI of under 25.

My husband made me an espresso this morning, a luxury now that we drink mostly decaf coffee.

I’m in a very good mood today, just woke up that way.
