Happy Thoughts

The last time I renewed my drivers license, it was when Real ID went into effect so it was more of a pain. I had to show up in person at the DMV and bring more documentation to prove who I was beyond DL and passport. It’s almost always a long wait at the DMV. I was just looking at renewal requirements, which also required documentation beyond my current license and passport (why?!, my current RealID already has that). However that’s only if you show up in person. They let me renew online this time, and a few clicks and a credit card payment and my license is now on the way.

Not sure this is it but IIRC, the Real ID initially just required that the state verify your birth certificate and some such. But then either they changed slightly or something and required that the state actually retain a copy of the required documentation. So even though I had shown my BC at 16 when I got my first DL, they had not taken a copy and/or retained a copy. The first try the state did for Real ID’s they just verified that they had actually gotten that documentation in the past. But then when the requirement that the state retain a copy started, everyone, even those who already had the state’s Real ID DL that had not required people to show up again, now required that they show up with their documentation so that the state could take a copy to be retained. After that when you renew, it can be done through the mail since the state now has a copy of the required documentation.

Was a big pain.

I’ve put off getting a real ID because as a woman whose name has changed, it’s an annoyance to gather all the paperwork. My utilities are in a former name, not a current one, for example.

But I have my passport and passport card and those work as a real ID for flying (passport if flying international, card if flying domestic), so I’ll probably never go through the process.

Same. Totally worth using a passport as ID to avoid ever going to DMV imo.

That’s my wife’s plan, at least for now. She just renewed her driver’s license in July and did not do real ID because of the hassle. She has no passport card, so will just use passport for all flying once real ID is required. At least based on the last few years, she does little domestic flying, and passport will still be required anyway for international flying.

makes sense, in that the vast majority of the N and S Korean citizens don’t dislike the other side. it’s the government of NK that is causing all the problems.

Not an option in my state. They only issue drivers licenses now that are real ID compliant

That is an annoyance. I hope my state doesn’t go to that system.

I got a big :peach: piece of Italian herb focaccia at Cob’s!! :yum:

That’s kinda dumb. My state requires more documentation for Real ID licenses than regular ones. At least for the initial one. I haven’t renewed a Real ID in my current state.

I had a Real ID in one state, moved to a state that didn’t have Real ID, then had to re-prove my eligibility when my new state finally adopted Real ID.

Oof. That does suck.

It did, but it should theoretically be a one-time thing. If some states require you to re-prove every time you renew that’s considerably more obnoxious in the long run.

Yeah, I’ve been eating corn for a couple of weeks. My spouse makes the best corn I’ve ever had. I never even liked corn before I got married. They boil it for 3 minutes IIRC, then done.
OTOH, my mother boils it for like 12-15, no wonder I never liked corn. I mentioned to her once that everyone love’s my spouse’s corn, and maybe mom should try cooking it for three minutes. All I got was a shrug, and corn continued to boil for 15 minutes.

Also from my mother’s cookbook. Boil potatoes mid-afternoon til done. Leave them sit on the stove in the water til supper time. Then bring them to a boil again and server. Imagine how that tastes.

what is all this boiling??

We soak the corn in the husk, then put it on the grill

I love grilled corn too. I typically pull the husk back, remove the silk, put the husk up again, soak, then grill.

I usually just throw them on the grill until they catch on fire. More exciting that way.

I don’t know if you knew this, but Americans grill everything. Canadians only grill some things.
