GOP and the Big Lie

During the December 27, 2020, call, Trump pressured Rosen and Donoghue to falsely declare the election “illegal” and “corrupt” even after the Justice Department had not uncovered evidence of widespread voter fraud.

“Just say that the election was corrupt + leave the rest to me and the R. Congressmen,” Trump said on the call, according to Donoghue’s notes.

How can anybody think Trump is anything besides the worst president in modern times. He wanted to engage in a coup to overthrow the US government and that was after he asked the military to start shooting protesters. He’s a sociopath.

But… but… but…

SOCIALISM!!!

Good ole Gym Jordan the pride of tOSU and Ohio. Come on Ohio we can do better.

Over the course of the past year, congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH), the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, has engaged in a systematic effort to cast doubt on the integrity of the 2020 U.S. presidential election. He also led efforts to create an image in the minds of Trump supporters of Jan. 6 as the “ultimate date of significance” (his words, repeated several times). He helped spearhead the effort to oppose certification of the election in Congress. He has continued to promote the “Big Lie” even after the events on Jan. 6 and subsequent FBI and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) warnings that this conspiracy is propelling domestic violent extremists.

What follows is a comprehensive Timeline of Rep. Jordan’s public statements (in Congress, in public, on social media, and in media interviews) and his known activities related to the presidential election and the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

The following fifteen highlights are from the Timeline below.

Congressman Jordan took the following actions:

  1. Suggested Democrats will try to steal the election (starting Aug. 22, 2020)
  2. Suggested and directly alleged the election was stolen (starting Nov. 5, 2020)
  3. Endorsed Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell’s call to investigate Dominion and Smartmatic (starting Nov. 15, 2020)
  4. Called for immediate congressional investigations of alleged election fraud (starting Nov. 18, 2020)
  5. Endorsed state legislators’ picking their own electors (starting Dec. 7, 2020)
  6. Said Trump should not concede (starting Dec. 7, 2020)
  7. Started public call to object to certification on Jan. 6 (starting Dec. 13, 2020)
  8. Supported call for “special counsel” to investigate alleged election fraud (starting Dec. 10, 2020)
  9. Called Jan. 6 the “ultimate date of significance” (Dec. 16, 2020)
  10. Met with President Trump and small group of House Republicans to coordinate plans to object to certification on January 6 (Dec. 21, 2021)
  11. Raised Trump supporters’ expectations by saying he hoped a majority of Congress will object on January 6 (Jan. 5, 2021)
  12. Helped lead the effort to vote against certification on January 6 (starting Dec. 13, 2020)
  13. Called for Trump supporters to remain peaceful, but does not say to disperse (Jan. 6, 2021 3:02 PM)
  14. Made false claims about Speaker Pelosi and security preparations for January 6 (starting Feb. 15, 2021)
  15. Revealed for the first time that he spoke with President Trump on Jan. 6 (July 28, 2021)

Team Trump is down in Brazil trying to kill democracy like they did here January 6.

I won’t support any politician who supports the big lie. I had a higher threshold in the past but at this point if they’re willing to stand up and call the big lie a lie and otherwise are less objectionable than the Democrat then I’d probably vote for them in the interest of trying to reduce the number of pro-big-lie Republicans, or at least their percentage of the party.

So true. My ex and I lived in the Seattle suburbs when the WTO protests were happening. I worked in the suburbs too. Ex worked downtown but his office closed during the protests and this was before WFH was really a thing. So he was home doing projects. My mother, who lived 2,500 miles away, was calling us literally every single morning and every single evening to make sure that we were still alive. It mattered not that I would explain every single time that we were miles from the action…

is there a shelf life on this? like someone who supports TBL now but in 3 years says the election wasn’t stolen - are they smart enough to earn your vote for having supported it for so long?

Hmmm… there’s probably a statute of limitations, but longer than 4 years and there would have to not be more recent evidence of asshattery. Which in today’s Twitter-fueled world seems unlikely for someone who supported The Big Lie.

I’m not exactly certain what my conditions will be, but they certainly won’t be met for quite a while.

I mean, some level of asshattery is probably endemic to being a politician running for US Congress (or higher) on a major party ticket.

But like, no legitimate rape or Guam tipping over or grabbing women by the pussy.

Trump keeps backing Big Lie proponents to run elections in key battleground states:

If Trump runs again, he wants to have people running elections in key states that will simply appoint him supreme leader if the vote goes against him

I’m kind of on the other end of the spectrum. At this point, the GOP is the Party of the Big Lie and anything that gives the party access to power is giving the Big Lie room to live, breathe and spread. IMO you have to obliterate them from every elected office until they finally get the hint and start purging the Trumpists from the party.

Kinzinger? Cheney? Maybe a couple others? They’re not “bad” Republicans but it’s not worth keeping them in office to give the party a chance to take control. I’d much rather the Kinzingers and Cheneys out there pull the cord and bail on the GOP and go independent. They can still get stuff done with Democrats that they want, and avoid the white nationalist QAnon stench infiltrating the GOP.

And this is why Democrats have to turn up in massive numbers in 2022 and have a coherent strategy on how to do so. I have low faith in either, even lower in both. I keep seeing bleating out of Ben Wikler in Wisconsin about winning Moscow Ron’s Senate seat, and he’s (again) wholly ignoring there’s an entire slate of House and state races that the Democrats need to win to flip the script.

Play that out in a number of other states, and the Democrats are going to be scratching their heads about how 2024 didn’t work out like they expected.

Trump sent a new letter to the GA Secretary of State 3 days ago asking him to decertify the election and to appoint him the true winner.

Reminds me of my wife’s dementia-stricken grandmother to be honest

A memo has emerged written by one of Trump’s lawyers on how they hoped Pence could anoint Trump president on January 6th.
