Or, killing renewable projects everywhere might be a better return for BP.
Discounting science regarding pollution of burnt or unburnt oil products. That is a good return. For BP.
And we now have a 5th…
Have never seen Greenwich Park so brown!
My daughter and her family fly from London to Toronto tomorrow and they are fed up with the heat. London doesn’t deal with heat very well.
Would have thought solar would have been a better option here given Amazon’s Climate Pledge.
Crazy that the power generation there would be the largest power plant in the US. To run banks of servers.
You know, that makes total sense, especially in Texas, but I think it’s easier to get construction approvals these days when you say your plan is to burn fossil fuels.
Especially in Pecos. Pecos County averages about 3,596 to 3,686 hours of bright sunshine annually, coming out to an average of roughly 8.5 to 12 hours of daily sunshine depending on the month.
This is not good.
The UK and Europe already can’t handle the heat waves. Public services were simply not designed with these temperatures in mind.
Pleased to see the announcement today of the proposed largest clean electricity investment in history rather than more natural gas generated electricity.
Let’s see if it survives the Quebec provincial election… the first agreement got scuppered by the NL provincial election.
It could be amended by a new Quebec government but it would be foolish to cancel it entirely given the energy benefits
Politicians often do short-sighted and foolish things.
The former premier of NL Roger Grimes was speaking in an interview today. He noted yesterday’s announcement was the 4th announcement he’s been to for various versions of this project, including back when he was premier. Something that’s not been discussed much is how the Innu play into this agreement. The proposed dam is in their land claims area and it doesn’t sound like there’s been a lot of consultation on this. Where NL is looking to get multiple billions in revenue a year from this project, I’m guessing they would like a substantial cut, but I’m not sure the province is onboard with that. They haven’t had to deal.with land claims like other provinces have as they exterminated the Beothuk in the 1800s and have been able to largely ignore the Innu. They also ignore the Qualipu. The province’s claim is that both groups arrived in NL after European settlers arrived. This may be in the courts for a long time.
Sounds like a mess. Like even if the province wins, they’ll lose in a way by leaving indigenous folks holding the bag.
I expect the federal government will give the indigenous groups an ownership share in the projects.
Unbelievable temperatures in Spain this year.
Poor bastards -
We have not pre-booked our family ski vacation this year as this El Nino does sound imposing. We get disproportionate impact in BC from El Ninos.
