The ocean temperatures also provide much more convincing evidence for global warming, or at least they did for a long time.They are a lot less volatile than the air temperatures.
Unfortunately, what we call science is very much a particular culture, much more so than a set of methods or even assumptions. As a culture it is fragile. And this administration is really dismantling it in a way that is pretty unbelievable.
Sadly, I’m not finding it unbelievable.

Europe is getting hit with another extreme heat wave.
Happening sooner this year (2026) vs last year (2025)
46C (115F) in Madrid June 18th
It’s certainly hot, but that’s not an accurate air temp reading.

UK also getting hit with temps that will approach 37C-40C.
Company cancelled a social event outside this week because of the heat.

The worst ever recorded heat wave in Europe.
We got lucky as we are going to Disneyland Paris early July so we don’t get hit with the closures. People are having a miserable experience due to the heat there. A lot of rides are closed and they cancelled many parades. Going to be interesting to see if DLP gives refunds as a lot of people paid €€€ for the trips.

It was 3C above average.
The climate effects at the tails of the distribution are non-linear..so difficult to predict. Looks like we under-estimated the impacts.
Both Lake Powell and Lake Mead are at critically low levels, and it seems this long term situation will continue to get worse. There are proposals to drain Lake Powell to save Lake Mead.

I know that this is not strictly a climate change issue, as it also involves huge populations and agriculture in areas where there is not enough water. Parking it here anyway

I am sorry the US is getting our forest fire smoke. If we could prevent the fires we would do so as Canadians don’t like it either.
