GH-Specialty Fall 2021

I think for ASOP 41 they asked for the definition of relying on other sources, and what considerations and considerations you should disclose when relying on external data. Something along those lines.

2 points on that and then a 3 pointer on a more standard list from asop 41

5 points total! incredible. and at this point the assumption I’m making is there is no one out there reading this about to take it

I tell everyone to prioritize asops 23 and 41 when they start taking FSA exams. There is no better ROI than really learning asops 23 and 41. And I hate memorizing! Worth it for 23 and 41. Worth it to go beyond the standard lists provided as well.

I still don’t know it. [what is that??]

lol at the 1332 reference.

I knew that some states were setting up reinsurance programs under 1332.

that is all.

I thought I knew some things. Whatever I knew is what I remembered from the FV syllabus. I didn’t read the Specialty reading that (briefly!!) mentions the 1332 waivers that closely to recall how they were mentioned there. I didn’t call out reinsurance specifically, which is a shame.

risk corridor is kind of like reinsurance if you squint at it right?

At the exam, I was convinced that 1332 waivers weren’t on the specialty syllabus at all. And it was one of those off syllabus random general knowledge /previous exams questions.

just checked my study notes. 1332 is literally the LAST list in my notes. I dont think I read it since I wrote it last month. So I would consider that a deep topic to test that hard…

likely a very small % of people got points on that question.

eh, I think it’s pretty easy to assume that it’s something to do with the ACA and the states. I expect almost everyone to be able to put something together (for some minimal partial credit, which is likely what I got) just based on context.

In any case, there were way too many points in that entire problem

Ok I’ve got proof that 1332 waivers are covered in more detail in FV than Specialty.

Let’s compare the Mate manuals. In Specialty, 1332 waivers are covered in 2 lines. In FV, they’re covered in 9 lines.

[it’s still on me for getting reinsurance and risk corridors mixed up, 1332 waivers are consistently connected with reinsurance]

I’m just tired, and excited to spend the weekend not thinking about this exam.

Yeah I’m going to have fun tonight. (But I’ll still be checking this thread :joy:)

There is one person in the Reddit thread that thought the really unclear calc was “super straight forward”. I’m curious what they did

there a GHS reddit thread? I thought the 5 of us were alone in the world.

There’s a giant “ongoing exams” thread. Specialty is somewhere in there.

I still haven’t come across anyone that thinks the exam was hard or that they definitely failed it. Compare this to the mood after every other sitting for any FSA exam. It’s weird…

I am so confused how people thought it was complicated…

Ok so how did you do it

easy now. all we can do at this point is wait for results without having 1000 anxiety attacks over the next 3 months. how you felt walking out of the exam is likely your best indicator of how you did- second guessing all your answers and what the passmark will be now is not healthy.

This was my 16th exam sitting over 10 years. 10 of those had waiting periods for grades. You would think I would get better at dealing with this.

Yes, I guess we all passed lol.

I’ve been wrong before- regarding how I felt walking out of exam translating to results

Feelings mean nothing
