And, it’s done. Good as new for another 240000 miles.
i have a lease expiring soon
Kia Forte. Happy with the car, but Kia insurance is a nightmare ( as is Hundai) due to lack of antitheft devices
- must be small sedan, city parkable
- wife wants electric, i don’t. Too much hastle. Will settle for a hybrid
- currently pay around $300 a month
thoughts?
thanks
There’s some great deals on EV leases right now but it depends what makes it a hassle for you. If you have your car garaged or live within walking distance of a level 2 charger it shouldn’t be a hassle. I had more hassle with ICE cars.
i rent. have a garage, but not sure how much of a hassle installation is.
found one 3 miles from here
ICE? Cars that drive immigrants back to Mexico?
ICE - Internal Combustion Engine. Yeah, 3 miles is too far unless you have a little scooter handy.
If you have a power outlet in or near your garage, you can get Level 1 charging with no installation (although you may need an extension cord). Level 1 is slow, it takes about 3 days to go from 0 to 100% (250-300 miles). If you’re driving less than 500 miles a week, this may be all you need. It does mean you will need to spend 5 seconds plugging or unplugging every time you get/leave home but it will save you trips to the gas station.
Alternatively, if you have a dryer outlet near the garage that will get you Level 2 which will charge you from 0 to 100% overnight. You might want to use a smart splitter (to stop the circuit from overloading and it allows you to plug both the dryer and the charging cable in at the same time) if it’s an old dryer outlet.
You can also top up at a fast charger when you’re out and about if you’re driving further than normal but they will cost a lot more.
electric is off the table
what is a reasonably priced hybrid small sedan
Prius, either plug in or not
Civic
There are a lot of hybrids these days. Civic, Accord, Prius, Sonata, Corolla, Camry. I am planning to buy one from hertz sometime soon, depending on if/when/how we move.
Define more clearly, please.
Also, if electric is off the table, is plug-in hybrid also off the table?
How long does it have to last, and is resale value at the end of your ownership important?
no plug in, will most likely lease - so three years
and resale, therefore not important
looking for around $300 - $350 a month
Then, get whatever.
Leasing means never having to say, “I am this car.”
I drive too much in a year for leasing to be worth it for me. At the one month mark I already put 1800 miles on the new one.
Yeah, that would be our problem too. We’re averaging just under 20K a year (34.5K over 21 months). I spoke to a few different EV leaseholders that got a really good deal but they’re limited to either 12K or 15K a year.
Bump.
Old-ass car’s battery cable broke. Went to get gas, and car wouldn’t start. No juice at all. Opened up the hood (cuz I could: mechanical, not electric), saw the cable severed, and noticed the battery was also lose. Guessing it moved around so much that the weak spot broke.
So, new part for $30 or so, but might take a few days, cuz old, and I don’t know where the other end goes. tomorrow when I get it towed, I’ll check to see how easy it might be for me to install it. If easy, I get it towed home (it’s at a gas station /convenience store, probably doesn’t want it parked there), if it is difficult, I get it towed to my guy.
Invest in battery stabilization as well. It shouldn’t move that much.
The bar holding it down was loose. Towed it to my guy, who put on a new battery connector, tightened the bar, and “I’m done.” No charge (no pun intended, the car started right up).
So, I’m stuck there with two cars (I didn’t know how long it would take, so I drove wife’s car), so I have to go pick it up later.
It’s good to have a guy.
With my old car, it is a necessity.
Bump.
Opened up my car door to fix my window.
Turns out the window was loose on the arm attached to the motor.
So, a buddy has some silicone, need to wait 24 hours for it to set. And I’m in a campground.
Not gonna rain this weekend, though.
Bears?
