Of course it is - because it’s been the history of election for Speaker of the House that both parties come together and vote for the majority’s nominee, and the minority doesn’t , no, wait - it’s never been like that.
This is like a bad marriage where you have all the disadvantages and none of the advantages because you simply can’t work as a team.
Twitter thinks that Jordan is on the cusp of winning tomorrow’s vote. Jordan has made deals with some of Scalise’s allies who opposed him, and Sean Hannity’s show put pressure on a bunch of potential no votes.
“Its usually a problem when the person in question has the morals of a turnip. Thats Jim Jordan basically.”
Stop insulting turnips.
The “Party of Principles” sure seems to have weak knees when it comes to standing up for them.
Aside from the chaos he will encourage in the House, are folks also concerned that Jordan could become POTUS if anything happens to Biden/Harris? That would be interesting.
Only if something happens to Biden - because if it does, Harris is going to be a heavily marked woman.
Beyond that, if Jordan gets the chair the DNC should just broadcast a reel of his craziest highlights into the homes of suburban women and ask, “this is what you’ll get if Republicans control government; is this what you want your daughters to grow up with?”
That was what I was thinking but didn’t want to say it out loud. There are a lot of crazies out there……
Or all the times Gym turned a blind eye at tOSU and ask, "Is this what you want your sons to grow up with?”
Vote #1 for Jordan is a no go.
20 Republican no votes for Jordan. For comparison, McCarthy had 19 no votes on the first 2 ballots, although that went up to 20 on the 3rd - 11th ballots.
Democrats fault?
If they don’t get a Speaker settled soon, I’m really worried this Hunter Biden Laptop investigation might lose steam.
Let’s see how long Republicans will stand behind Jordan. I suspect not as long as they stood behind McCarthy. Rumors are that they may not, and if Jordan doesn’t stick the nomination semi-quickly support may wane.
I expect enough of the “Never Jordan” crowd, like Don Bacon, are going to be that dug in that Jordan never gets to 217 and Republicans have to go back to the drawing boardat some point…
He can lose 3, right? It seems all the Rs in Biden districts voted against him so unless he flips that demo quick he’s probably got issue.
Who is their 4th!?!?!? choice if Jordan goes down in flames?
GOP Rep. Doug LaMalfa, a longtime Kevin McCarthy ally who voted for him on the first ballot in the speaker vote, told reporters he will vote for Rep. Jim Jordan on the second ballot.
“I’m not against him,” LaMalfa said of Jordan. “I was for Kevin McCarthy the whole time and I thought the process has been terrible what has happened to him and the things that he’s been held up for. So I’m voting for Jim Jordan because he’s a good guy. He’s done good work on committee. And we need to move forward with this place today, and get our work done.”
I’ll say this much: LaMalfa’s spine lasted about 20 minutes, if that. That’s way above average for his party.
Scalise to Jordan: Drop Dead
I can hope. (figuratively, of course)
But not that soon, you see - because getting a speaker ASAP is only important if he’s got the votes in hand, so not until at least 11am ET tomorrow. Meanwhile, the anti-Jordan group is demanding a vote tonight.
While I agree with the “figuratively”, Jordan has one of the most punchable faces I’ve ever seen. The urge to punch increases exponentially when he speaks.
