That was only on exam 9 too. It wasn’t an issue with the other Exams
I don’t feel comfortable saying I’m prepared based on some PE that I’ve already seen and is likely easier than the real one. I think it is easier than 2019 and 2022. What do you think?
Last year when I first saw 2018 I thought it wasn’t too bad except for some messy algebra in Q1. And I failed the real one really bad.
Thanks for the comment on other TIA PEs, I will go back and try #3 and see how it goes.
Interesting, I actually found 2019 a little easier than 2018 but thought both were very difficult overall. But I would also agree that 2022 was way way harder than any past released exam or practice exam out there, and chances are the real exam will be even more difficult this time which is scary to think about.
I believe TIA 3 was a little bit easier than TIA 2. And TIA 4 was the worst in my opinion.
Y’all are scaring me and making me even more nervous than I already was!
How have you felt about the past CAS exams and practice exams?
I did not take 2018 or 19 yet since I was saving that for closer to. I felt the first TIA exam was not representative of what I would expect the exam to be.
Don’t take 2018 last…just my 2 cents.
Why not?
Okay I take it back. only 1 and 2 were easy (1 more than 2). Difficulty increases. now I am struggling with them
Of my exam taking tenure, it stands out as having the most negative reaction, meaning it’s a poor representation of a ‘good’ exam, won’t be indicative of future exams, and if those who took it are to be fully believed, you won’t risk a demoralizing experience right before the exam, which would suck.
Just how I would handle it tho. Some others will certainly disagree.
Thank you for that! The last I thing I need right now is more demoralizing.
It’s still worth going through at some point, as it can still highlight topics of interest and what they’re looking for in general, but I would not use it as a PE close to exam time for those prior reasons.
Whats your strategy this time around? Think any practice test/past exam out there is even close to representative of the real exam? I also didn’t really think it was straightforward last sitting… it was harder than past exams on top of a higher passmark.
What are you talking about? You mean to tell me 2 large IQ’s right from the start where we require using the quadratic formula along with concepts applied in obscure ways that were never asked before along with some additional defective/off syllabus questions ISN’T representative of what they’re looking for?!
The saddest part about this is that this is still significantly easier compared to the exams in the CBT era…
I’ve been doing Fisher problems for a while now and just don’t think I have fully grasped the concepts. How’s everyone studying for that section? There is probably not enough time for me to go back to source material.
That sounds like a high level recap of most every exam 7,8,9 sitting since they have gone black box.
Prepare to see source material smashed together in ways the authors never intended with high point values placed on areas of the source that had very little meaning in the grand scheme of the whole paper.
I don’t think they intend to throw some questions that largely deviate from the syllabus, it’s how the questions are phrased. Sure there will be one or two “strange” questions but I don’t think that’s why I failed.
CBT is supposed to standardize the test and I think they are on the right track, unfortunately we are taking the exams during the transition.
Did TIA#3, definitely harder than #1. Good for practice but remote from being representative. I won’t expect any no brainer like comparing CH and CCC stat given their values. The IQ for Fisher - constructing table M/L also seems too easy. I think the IQ could be either GLM or Fisher combined with one or two reinsurance sub parts. I’m still struggling with these sections, so I wouldn’t be able to solve it…
For Fischer, make sure you can do that spreadsheet with your eyes closed.
I actually found that IQ tricky since I completely missed the aggregating over policies aspect. Also got a bit tripped up by the last subpart. I feel like the IQ could literally be anything including smashing several papers together in ways never done before.
