Fall 2023 Exam 8 Thread

It depends on the topic. I personally have not read the source material but I have been told that certain topics the source material explains things well.

So does this exam kit not even have Rule 2 for NCCI? I only see Rule 1 and no additional tables or even those for determining if someone falls under mandatory experience rating. Is that what you see as well?

I have the table and pages for rule 2 in experience rating in my study kit. It starts on page R5 and ends on page R15. For retro plans the kit starts with rule 6

Hmmm…Maybe mine didn’t come with it. I have through R4, but I see in the table of contents the reference to R5-R15 like you mentioned. I pulled up the document on the CAS Pearson Vue virtual testing environment to see the tables that we will have on the exam. It doesn’t have that Rule, but I’m guessing it probably wont’ be tested too much. (The old kits were massive compared to this new kit. Almost wondering why I even bought it lol)

Just FYI there is no guarantee that the tables you see in the PearsonVUE environment are the ones you’ll get on exam day, or even that they are in sync with the current study kit.

Oh boy I just can’t wait to finish this exam yet feeling underprepared. How’s everyone doing? I’m struggling to get a representative practice exam. Old exams and TIA PEs don’t seem to be the ones.

Nervous as hell but want it to be over as well. Do you also feel TIA’s are too easy? I have only done one so far and got an extraordinary 92%. Don’t feel I am that good though, so thinking they are easy instead.

I am also in the nervous but want to be done boat. IMO TIA practice exam 1 (and possibly 2) are not representative of an exam since they are trying to cover every topic on the syllabus rather than asking questions based on the weights in the syllabus.

I did TIA#1 and found them too easy so I stopped doing any TIA PEs. I also did 2018 exam and it was easy but long due to the first two IQs. I’ve heard 2018 and 2019 are probably the most representative exams that you can find which makes this exam hard to pass.

Are you taking the exam for the first time? Just curious because I did TIA PE1 and didn’t feel it was too easy.

Second time. Last time I did TIA#1 and thought it was easy and failed the real exam.

The thing about TIA and RF is they are so well written that you don’t have to spend time staring at the question and thinking wtf

how did you feel after writing the exam the first time? Did you think you had a chance?

Nope i was pretty sure I failed because I didn’t finish the exam. I was very underprepared and had to think about the formulas and concepts - there’s not time for you to do that.

If I recalled correctly, last year was straightforward, many questions were standard with a bit twists here and there. It’s definitely not easy, perhaps fair and long. Long due to the CBT environment - larger dataset, doing algebra in spreadsheet, using “plug and check”, and no F4 etc.

I hope this time is straightforward as well and we get a pass!

You really found 2018 easy? Curious as to why you’re saying you’re feeling underprepared then because even after having seen the questions before, most would still probably find it to be a tough exam.

I agree that TIA 1 wasn’t too bad but I found the rest of them to be more difficult.

It was somewhat straightforward last sitting with a brutal pass mark, careful what you ask for.

Per the new exam comments they are now deducting for lacking pedantic calculation notes on EXCEL based exams, because they are the literal worst and not even hiding the fact they have an agenda to keep people out, not actually testing qualification.

I’m convinced it’s that level of nonsense that got me my 3rd 5 in a row on these upper levels.

There were slightly more deductions for calculation errors than typical. Candidates are reminded that the instructions to the exam explicitly say to show all work; graders expect to see enough support on the candidate’s answer sheet to follow the calculations performed. While the graders make every attempt to follow calculations that were not well-documented, lack of documentation may result in the deduction of points where the calculations cannot be followed or are not sufficiently supported.> Blockquote

Lol the comment was that more people made calculation errors not that they docked more for calculation errors

They took off more for “errors” deemed to be errors because of documentation issues.

How can you not follow calculations in an excel environment?

Have you ever opened up someone else’s Excel workbook, seen a hardcoded value and thought where did the value come from? Avoid doing that.
