Fall 2021 Exam 8 Thread

Not gonna lie, idk how I passed that Exam 6.
I ran out of time while attempting the last two questions and had zero time to review any answers.
I was ready to give up Exam 8 and get Exam 6 studying going again.
I’m so pumped to study for Exam 8.

I debated trying to slog through 8 again, but I don’t think I have it in me. My youngest are 17, and I took my first exam when they were 8 days old. At some point, enough is enough.

I may follow along from the sidelines and see how things go and see if I can mentally get myself ready for a run in a year as a “one last shot” thing, but otherwise I’m content to sit as a a career ACAS with 8 and 9 to go.

3rd attempt for me. Going to dwell on my fail for a few days and then get back to work.

Sorry to hear. What’s your change in approach this time? This is my first attempt and I’m already scared

Most likely in for my 4th attempt (with 3 5’s). Really thought I had it this time, got 60-69%, 60-69%, and 70-79% as my score breakdown so I was probably right there. This exam is extremely difficult since the type of questions they can ask are limitless. Not in the mood at all to study again but will try to give it another go. Can’t stop knowing I’m only a few points at most away. Good luck to all taking it.

Just bought TIA, wondering if Crystal and RF worth the money. TIA seems sufficient and comprehensive.

I used Crystal and RF for 7 and 9, they both are good supplements given that TIA is not as good for 7 & 9.

I thought RF was really good for 8. Crystal I liked better than RF for 9. But RF wasn’t bad there too.

I didn’t use Crystal for 8.

Josh is really good, but I think a supplement is definitely helpful for 8.

Going to use TIA only. Anyone who’s taken this exam before give any good tips?
Thanks bros and sis’s.

Become a pricing actuary and specialize in reinsurance for a year, the exam will be much easier that way.

Same here, in for 4th attempt (4, 5, 5) similar breakdown last two attempts. We just have to plug away, best of luck.

You’re very close. You got this man!

This will be my first attempt on 8. I’m thinking to just use TIA + source material.

Anyone know of a good place to get practice problems? I just realized that Rising Fellow only has the Cookbook and no problem pack for this exam. I know Mahler has practice problems but I’m scared of them.

I’m still considering either Crystal or RF. But I’m afraid I won’t have enough time to use any material other than TIA. We only have 3.5 months to study now. So I will probably go with TIA + source (I’ve already read a few papers, and it’s my first attempt).

Mahler’s practice problems have pretty detailed explanations.

Has anyone received the study kit yet, and if so how long did it take to get your order?

Sup boys, eskeetit

I ordered the study kit on 6/28 and got it in the mail four days later.

Sounds like it’s time for me to contact the CAS.
