Yeah I agree. There are some content that need more background info to fully understand. I hope when I start using TIA or Crystal I will get a clearer idea.
Wow that sounds scary. 9 was getting harder since 2019 because it started to test concepts not direct or obvious from the paper. 8 seems more difficult to digest.
Got my Cat Modeling book today. I bought it because the content looks very interesting but given the % weight of syllabus itās not worth the timeā¦
I think I may have made this comment earlier but I read the Grossi source for 8, it was great with lots of pictures and the history of CAT modeling.
In terms of yield on studying time though it was probably the most low value studying time in the entirety of exam 8 (small syllabus weight and historical questions arenāt bad), but I enjoyed reading it just for industry knowledge.
For anyone who is using TIA, do you find that they provide enough flashcards, or did you supplement with your own?
Iāve read the GLM mongraph a few times in recent years. Counting on that to give me a head start, as I have no interest in pulling the trigger on new material until I find out I actually pass 6. Which I will never have confidence in again after the last round.
GLM is definitely the chunkiest but challenging source I can remember from 8 so agree with that strategy. If you feel solid on that paper even going into it thatāll do you a lot of favors.
Iāve put several of the concepts to use in toying around with GLMs in R and had some success, but I donāt use them on the job, and have not reviewed the context of any exam problems still, so I wouldnāt say Iām āsolidā yet, but have definitely been exposed to it enough to hit the ground running.
OK I finished the GLM paper last night. Need to hit up the notecards and problems. I know the 1st half of the paper better than the 2nd half
anyone registered for the Fall yet? For some reason I just want to wait until I got the 9 resultā¦
I registered this morning.
I wish the Mahler paper talked more about baseball as opposed to always making analogies to insurance
started reading the GLM paper. It really is well written. Itās actually more interesting and better written than Grossi which costs $150+. Itās less technical than I expected though (less than 7 at least).
Yes the glm paper on exam 8 might help me fill in some gaps when I study Taylor again for exam 7
Is no one using Mahlerās materials to study? I used him for MAS-1 and it was excellent, although maybe a bit TOO thorough.
I got Mahler and TIA. I agree that Mahler is a little overwhelming. I think my strategy is going to be to go through TIA first, and rely on Mahler and the source material when I need more practice problems or a more in-depth look at some topic.
Passed Exam 6. Letās get this.
Iām toying with whether or not we actually have time. Iām exhausted from years of 6 still.
oh stop it. You know you want to attempt this. I actually bought TIA already a month ago but just stopped studying in June because of vacation
Now itās time to really study this yet another beast.
I can assure you that āwantā is a strong word in this context.
