Facebook observations

Of course, “researches a subject and then uses logic and critical thinking skills to form an opinion” usually means “watches a couple YouTube videos”…

I hope you replied with this line.

Trying not to comment directly on a couple of my relatives posts due to some ongoing issues around family dynamics. The 75+ crowd is a cranky, litigious bunch.

That’s a good point. I just avoid facebook entirely. I have one connection - my spouse. No other family members. And that’s good, because my spouse is connected with a bunch of them and it sounds like I wouldn’t be talking to them at family conventions if I read most of what they post. Bunch of fringe lunatics when they get on the internet.

One of my cousins has a huge sticker on the back of their vehicle "F*** Trudeau’. Then a smaller sticker that says ‘we the fringe’. Yeah, you’re edgy alright. Bunch of angry alcoholics is what some of them are. That’s less edgy than they’d like to believe.

The usual… Don’t loan family members money and dividing up an estate… Thirty years later due to a combination of bad marriages, beneficiaries who are minors, procrastination, prison sentence and judgement, feuding relatives, fights over stupid things, another stalled estate, etc.

What shall I title your thread??

Trying to not comment on family posting about how January 6th was a peaceful tour where people were wrongfully arrested after the FBI instigated violence, while BLM was a disgraceful riot by thugs burning down our cities and encouraged by the Democrats who bailed them out afterward to go loot more.

Just a reminder that Mark Zuckerberg is a piece of shit human being (but I repeat myself) who will always put profits over the well-being of humanity by any measure.

Porter Airlines sponsored ad : they are looking to hire pilots for Dash 8 planes. I much prefer being a passenger, thank you very much.

Not just me getting that ad then… A childhood friend of mine used to fly Dash 8s for Porter but has since switched to Air Canada and is or was flying 777s.

Facebook really needs to tell you when someone is dead. Today is the birthday of a Facebook friend who died several years ago.

Some of the birthday posts are like “Thinking of you on what would have been your 86th birthday :blue_heart:”.

But others are like “Happy Birthday! :tada::birthday_cake::partying_face:Hope you and your daughters get to do something fun today!”

I suspect if the person would have been turning 86, a significant fraction of their friends would likely miss the notification saying this is a dead person even if it was provided.

That being said, maybe Facebook could stop with the birthday announcements for people they know are dead or perhaps make it clearer that the person is dead when reminding you of their birthday as they don’t seem to differentiate them these days.

Linkedin too… a couple work connections died young and it’s like nothing happened

I might have posted this before but I have the date of death for someone in my phone contacts. In the dates section, there’s one specifically for date of death so it’s not like it was a field I edited or created. I get a notification with something inappropriately cheery, like “It’s [dead loved one]'s special day!” Date is coming up soon, so I can report back.
