Interestingly, I can get quite a bit on my phone but when ever I try to look at comments that are not automatically displayed, it doesn’t come back with anything.
Or seemingly going to anything that wasn’t cached, it doesn’t seem to respond.

ah, well post pandemic i also use my personal laptop. pre-pandemic, used the company computer. maybe they knew. maybe they didn’t.
They know.
Every website you hit on that company computer will be going through their corporate internet. And they’ll have software running that generates reports of every website along with time at the site,and likely that report goes to your direct manager.
That level of monitoring is 25 years old. The shocker would be if they’re not doing that.

If direct managers were getting reports of everyone’s internet usage we would have heard about that by now. We haven’t.
Well who knows who’s getting it. But it’s there, and someone’s looking at it. They’re likely exposed to liability if they didn’t do this.
maybe IT. I highly doubt direct managers are looking to see who is spending too much time on GoActuary or facebook.
I heard of people getting told to cut out youtube, but it wasn’t because they were thought to be wasting too much time on there, it was because it was something to do with sucking bandwidth or some computery terms.

my company used to block facebook, and then suddenly they decided there was a business need.
yeah, i have no idea…
So apparently FB being down affected some of those sites that tell people if the site is down or if they are having a problem. 
facebook is also down on my phone. i think i was wrong about that. it gives like old stuff, but if you try and look at anything new it craps out.
Yeah, I’m with ao fan. I know they monitor all internet use at some level, but I doubt any human being looks at most of the data unless the software throws a flag. I am certain that the information isn’t given to direct managers. Until recently, I was a manager, and didn’t get any such information. Nor have I ever heard any gossip about who does what on the internet.
Also, while I’m sure they keep the info for some period of time so they can research flags or complaints, I’m also certain they throw it away after some short-ish retention period. Everything else has an assigned retention period, most of them fairly short, and this is not the kind of data that gets better with age.
Like everyone else, we have nanny software that occasionally says, “why are you trying to use that website?” or “you aren’t allowed to access that website”, or … The warning messages are usually pretty transparent as to why a website has been flagged. And usually, if I actually need it for work purposes, I can get to the site anyway. But a human being DOES look at those requests. In fact, my manager has to sign off on those.
Yeah at some point they put Powerball and Megamillions sites into the no-no list and I got an error a couple times when I checked them.
Then we were in a meeting and the company internet monitoring/access came up and the IT guy mentioned that I had tried to access some gambling sites.

Mine does, but they are explicitly against the rules.
I know my employer isn’t very concerned about employees using company computers for non-work. In fact, the rules explicitly allow that, so long as you don’t do anything that puts the company’s equipment at risk or detracts from doing your job. So if i wanted to check the state lottery, I’d try it and see if the net-nanny prevented me. But if the rules were different, that’s not a site I’d check out.
Back in the day, a co-worker was in charge of the lottery funding business, and he got net-nannied from the web sites. “No, it IS a business purpose! I am selling them annuities, not buying tickets!”

I worked at a company that bid on lottery funding for a while. I don’t remember if we ever got any. But it was before the internet so we had to look in the news papers.
