I fully expect that the age of consent on Epstein Island will magically be dropped to one year below the age of whoever tRump formerly statutorially raped.
Something I’ve been quietly struggling with is holding an unpopular-in-some-circles opinion that the label of “pedophile” may be a bit too broad for situations such as Epstein’s and our Glorious Leader’s.
Consider the following heirarchy of creepiness:
Having relations with a pre-pubescent person.
Having relations with someone presumed incapable of granting informed consent (due to inebriation, immaturity, power imbalance, etc.)
Having relations with someone beyond the (e.g.) “half plus seven” threshold.
The allegations of the “wonderful secret” don’t include the first of those points. That doesn’t mean that the second of those points isn’t also atrocious and hopefully criminal, or that the third of those points is just damned creepy.
I will admit that, prior to recent events, my mental dictionary only included the first point within the definition of “pedophilia”. Sadly, recent events have caused me to be aware that many people understandably disagree with my mental dictionary.
Yes, the term pedophile in public usage has expanded beyond the psychiatric term of pedophilia to include ephebophilia. Been that way for at least 2 decades.
Keep in mind that I do have “incapable of granting informed consent” in between that category and boinking prepubescent individuals, and it is not my intent to discount how horrible it is (whereas violating “half plus seven” is creepy, but probably shouldn’t be illegal).
I think that the “incapable of granting informed consent” addresses most of the Epstein-linked allegations.
So the angle the sick fucks are taking is to differentiate pedophilia with “doesn’t look like a child physically” as acceptable. Simultaneously admitting they view females as simple sex objects.
Kelly’s comments aren’t really about Epstein. They are testing the waters on the Trump narrative. What i have in my mind at this point is Trump was with Epstein once on his island and hung out with these girls (that physically look of age) in a group setting but declined anything beyond that and probably never went back.
I’d frame it as – there are different levels of sick fuckery, and unfortunately a large group of people apparently don’t view the outer layers as sick fuckery.
My impression is that the “wonderful secret” involved people who were too young for an objective observer to believe they were capable of granting informed consent, and/or where the power imbalance was such that any “consent” granted could be called into question.
(I wouldn’t be surprised if inebriation didn’t factor in a time or two.)
In other words: a particularly creepy form of rape, regardless of any Greek labels that might be applied.
There is too much emphasis on Epstein’s island. He also raped victims in both Florida and his NYC house, and the woman who filed a lawsuit alleging that Trump raped her said that he did so in NYC. (She recanted while he was running for President, there is some speculation that she was pressured to do so. Her lawsuit contained details that came out in the Maxwell prosecution that were not previously public)
