DOGE (or: the Elmo Show)

That was my initial reaction but I think he might be playing on his phone. Hard to say.

I also thought he was on his phone.

Imagine having the power to feed hundreds of thousands of starving kids and saying nope, not today. Yes, source is a deeply leftist rag, but it tends to be pretty decent.

Per Chris Bing, ProPublica:
“USAID staff are being marched into their old offices today/tomorrow to collect their belongings before the agency is effectively shuttered.”

PEPFAR is being shut down, as are other life saving projects. This is a humanitarian disaster.

Meanwhile Marocco is fighting in court not to pay USAID vendors for work already completed under contract.

The dismantling of USAID will go down as one of the worst things this country has ever done. It’s crazy that Congress and SCOTUS are allowing one person to destroy an agency defined by law, along with its funding.

Drew Harwell. WaPo:

“Every news outlet reporting Elon Musk’s comment about accidentally canceling Ebola prevention efforts and quickly restoring them should also say they haven’t been restored, they’re still canceled, the outbreak-fighting teams are dismantled, the money is gone.”

Publicly, the admin says this stuff to reduce blowback. Repeatedly they do the exact opposite.

You are most likely right.
The note worthy aspect to me of the photo is that all heads are up but his, looking at the guy apparently in charge. I believe that guy is the new Secretary of the Universe. Or it could be a god of some sort. Hard to say.

Unfortunately, letting malnourished kids die is a feature rather than a bug to many, as long as they’re foreigners or people of color.

The former head of Global Health at USAID gives a rundown of some of the life saving programs canceled

Tangent, I saw Atul Gawande speak once. Super, super smart, guy really has a way of cutting right to the point. Once I finish the book I’m on now, I have a copy of Better on deck.

I am not even sure you guys will be able to count on receiving your SS checks in the future.

They defiitely have SS in their cross-hairs as well.

NYT has writen an expose on the people behind DOGE.

Tl dr: reports about the dire impact of USAID stoppages on Africa and Gaza are being sat on without action

Free speech absolutist…my ass.

Elmo seems unable to take any criticism directly.

https://wisconsinexaminer.com/briefs/musk-backed-ad-attacks-wrong-susan-crawford/

A political action group tied to Elon Musk that has sought to influence Wisconsin’s high stakes Supreme Court election canceled a social media ad this week after it featured the wrong person.

The ad by the group Building America’s Future attempted to attack Dane County Judge Susan Crawford, the liberal candidate in the race. However the ad featured a photo of a different Susan Crawford. Instead of showing the judge, the ad, which attacked Crawford’s record on crime, featured former Harvard Law School Professor Susan P. Crawford.

Yeah, let’s give these geniuses free reign over governmental spending.

It’s good to be da king.

I actually wouldn’t doubt that Starlink could potentially deliver a superior product, etc. However, Elmo shouldn’t be the person making that determination, for the obvious reason…an I have no faith that this administration can find anyone to provide an objective assessment or make an objective decision.

IMO Starlink should be nationalized. Now with Musk in charge of the government, I guess it is.
