They are both con men in the same mold. Musk sell his grandiose ideas, Trump sells Trump. Trump’s con translates well to politics, Musk’s con not so much.
As recently as last Wednesday, President Donald Trump made it clear: Elon Musk is in charge of DOGE.
But on Tuesday afternoon, the White House revealed that a little-known official, Amy Gleason, now holds the title of acting DOGE administrator — a job that implies she heads up the agency. The White House didn’t say when Gleason was appointed, but the decision appeared rushed; she was scheduled to be on vacation Tuesday in Mexico, The New York Times reported, citing anonymous sources.
Making the situation even more complicated, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said at a briefing Tuesday that Musk was still “overseeing” DOGE without having the title of administrator. She didn’t elaborate.
They are putting a new face to the operation because so far Musk has been a big failure from a reputational standpoint.

Sometimes we’ll be too quick to cite a number at work and need to go back and correct ourselves and I’ll feel bad about it. Then I see Musk claiming billions of savings to America when it’s far less than that and I feel better about myself.

I remember the first time I ever made a billion dollar calculation error at work. I laughed pretty hard, then fixed it before anyone else saw it.
I spent the weekend looking into why I had a 2.5b figure on a spreadsheet where I was expecting only 250m or so.

Nobody loves the government teat more than Elon. Having inside access to more government contracts is a goldmine for this guy.

I expect that Elmo will find some excuse to renege, but if he did go on…
