To kids who don’t know any different, there’s a level of abuse imo.
You lower the amount of presents when your kids realize santa is fake? That doesn’t seem nice
Pascal’s wager for the win.
Somewhat related; I’m reading “The Final Days” by Woodward and Bernstein.
no cause i never believed in santa as a kid. i thought it was fake and that i had to alert other kids to this big lie.
i had a debate with one kid in 2nd grade. he didn’t believe me that it was a big lie. jokes on him!
Thats what i said in post 5
I thought you said he goes with Jesus. I meant that he is Christlike.
In a way, it makes no sense to put them together. Nobody wants to believe in two Christs.
I meant he is Christlike too
The whole naughty or nice bs is similar to what makes you go to heaven or hell
Yep. I’m not sure if you can land an xbox on sola fide tho. Maybe.
“He knows when you’ve been sleeping. He knows when you’re awake. He knows if you’ve been bad or good so be good for goodness sake.”
Santa is a creepy stalker who belongs in prison
sounds like God for sure. He watches when you masturbate, knows when you’re sleeping with the same sex, etc.
for the christians, how do you eventually tell your kids that santa is fake BUT Jesus is totally real and the son of god? Seems like one lie would just lead to them thinking critically about the other one being the exact same lie on an adult scale.
I remember talking with a Christian friend whose kid believed too much in Santa, and she was worried that learning about Santa would bleed into doubting Jesus. I think she told the kid Santa is just your parents proactively, because of that. But I don’t remember the details.
I suspect people don’t really learn from their errors. So, it’s a non-issue.
It would be cool if losing a lot of money in Vegas caused people to realize that they can’t actually win, but that’s not how it works.
kid’s classmate was a santa-truther in 1st grade. was causing a huge stir.
parents (devout christians) said “we didn’t think it was ok to lie to our child.”
I wanted to ask if they told him all his friends now hated him.
why did the classmates believe him over their lying parents? why should a kid who doesn’t believe in it keep it to themselves? sort of like jesus, i’m not going to pretend to believe in him, so why should a kid pretend to believe in santa?
i told a kid in 2nd grade. he didn’t believe me. he believed his parents.
also, why would they hate the kid who told them the truth exactly?
it was a big kerfuffle. the torn beliefs all at once.
respecting others nonsense (but harmless) beliefs is how the world should operate.
they hated the kid bc he was a dick about it. like berating all the kids with his knowledge. he was being a dick and using this info as the stick to hit everyone with.
I can remember someone telling me in 2nd grade.
It’s probably the only thing I can remember from 2nd grade.
when i was in kindergarten, i told another kid that jesus wasn’t god. she didn’t believe me either. we went and asked the teacher who said it depends on your religion (so a non-answer basically).
is this better, worse, or the same as telling the kid in 2nd grade that santa is fake?
That depends on your religion.
