DNGAF Friday

I hope you enjoyed it! I started curling about 4 years ago and both enjoy it and find it frustrating.

Slight shit show this week, just got a large project dropped on my team today, but I think that’s a problem for next week. This afternoon is somehow meeting-free so I can get a few things in order. My immediate concern is figuring out where to take the bike out for lunch.

That is news!
Might hit the 90’s (F) here today (first time this year). The local Weather Underground thermometer shows 94F (!), while the hourly forecast shows no amount over 87F. Weird.

or screw off with your sun :). Risk off frost here last night. Honestly I like the cold but admit I’m envious of california.

Next weekend I’m headed 9 hours north. Weather forecast shows overnight temps of 37-38F. I’ve actually been up there before at this time of year and run into 3 feet of snow. Thankfully not this year.
And that’s why I have a woodstove in the tent. I’ll have a coffee in the dark of the night under the stars as it gets really brisk, then head inside and crash in the fresh air but with the tent temperature hot enough that I don’t really need a sleeping bag.

Finally got a dngaf this year, but it started at 3pm. Had two projects that had approaching but previously indeterminate deadlines become ā€œFridayā€ this week. Actually finished them at 2:50! Which was good, because i left to pick up 3rd daughter at college (2hrs away). D2 (finished work at 3) and D1 (off today) were last minute joins, so we had a fun road trip! Ate at the caf even tho D3 can’t use leftover swipes. Expected parking to be tough as deck next to caf is also next to baseball stadium (as well as graduation night). Electronic sign says no spots, but we circle up anyway. As we drive down a lane, a person pulls a cone from in front of a spot and directs us to park. Evidently it is a thing to get to this deck early and get in a spot that overlooks the baseball field. We were perplexed because we have no idea who this person is, but she explained ā€œI put the cone up for me earlier today, but then when i came in the spot next to me was open, so here you go!ā€ Was fully prepared to drop the $45 for 3 guests for a decent but not stellar buffet -figured 3rd to last day of tapering operations would be leftover hash - but lady waves us in. ā€œSomeone had $300 dining dollars to burn so they said to let the next people inā€ - She didn’t even ring us, so i figure that was a polite fiction. No pizza station, but still pretty decent. The 3 sister banter that accompanied the meal was highly amusing.

What a strange woman.

What is it with her need of having a cult of personality around their person?

Always found this so bizarre. Ick factor is high and I am surprised the Aussies put up with this nonsense even if the money is ok.

Combination of nature and nurture, I’m guessing.

People like this should not be in the business of digging holes.

Didn’t get a good night’s sleep last night, so it’s gonna be tough to GAF today.

I have this model. Every year the first time we run it is in May, and every year it’s a bit of a shit show. Something always goes wrong.

So we got data today. I told them best case, expect the first draft Tuesday, might need a little time for QA after that. And somehow, everything lined up and the data all looks right. I got a first draft done this morning.

Now, I haven’t told anyone this. The plan is to screw off the rest of the day, do QA on Monday, and kick it loose late Monday. I get an afternoon off, they get it a day earlier than promised. It’s a victimless crime.
