I took Monday through Thursday off this week, only came in today because I had a meeting I didn’t want to skip, now I get to spend the whole day catching up on emails.
But at least I can do that in bed while watching garbage tv.

Even when I’m OOO, I check my emails.
Looking forward to things warming up and being able to WFH outside again…
2nd that. hate being in my basement office all day. Good tech setup, but no windows…
wonder how much radon is down here.
One of my (somewhat facetious) goals when I first started working in an office was to have a seat near a window. My very first cube was about as far away as you could get from a window without being underground. In fact it wasn’t until COVID that I got a seat near a window…
Last couple of years I’ve had a cube near a window. Facing west, though, and with a short wall, so have to get up every day at 3PM to shut the blinds.
same at home, actually. More NNW, though.
my long history of sitting in different cubes is a sad underlying story of my career. My wife once asked if she could visit me at work, I said no way, I cant let you see me like this. I said she can visit when I have an office.
i still remember being shown my first cube at my first job and having this feeling of overwhelming terror like ‘wtf did I just do’. it was like Edmond Dantès being taken to his cell that first day. Its something I really hate that I just got used to… sitting in a small confined space for long hours for years and years.
Other than that Ive had a great career so far, but cube life is borderline hell.
Did you put stuff up on the walls? It’s not so bad if you put pictures and things.
And I had a cube neighbor who had hanging plants, I was keen to do similarly but then we went remote. Fortunately I started doing that at home though.;
When I was in a cube, I just got up and walked around and talked to people from time to time. Instead of sending an email, I’d just wander over.
I used to when I was younger. Had lots of pictures of kids on the wall (referring to the ‘do it for her’ Simpsons episode). But slowly and after several moves (im on my 6th? cube now) I have almost nothing on the wall but work notes. I have good neighbors now which is great. I have had lots of bad ones in the past that made it unbearable. Back in 2013 I had the best little setup with just 3 of us in our own corner nook.
I kinda just turn my soul to ‘off’ at work and go machine mode now. then come home and play with my kids until I go to bed.
lol, Oh i talk to people at work. but I go off the rails a little with my rants in public. Some days I have to just stay in my cube and stfu.
Have you always been in reserving? /s
I find if I have too much coffee that can be a problem
lol, I was for a while, but last 6 years I have been pricing side.
My “office” is the spare room in the basement where old junk goes to die. At least there’s a window.
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
I’d rather have a nap right about now.
Such a great movie though, Interstellar
who setup a 330 firday call for me… need to keep game face on a little longer.
We do resourcing every Friday at 3-~4pm which is great because I get to not feel super bad about DNGAF from then till EOB
