Democrats Say the Darndest Things!

This is the D version of grifting.

Schumer is trying to cash in now that he is in the news a bit more.

Nah. This is a Tuesday for career politicians. They’re constantly fundraising for the next election.

If he truly wanted to grift, he’d retire and serve on boards or work as a consultant.

Some people like live, in-person events with famous people. I’m not one of them for the most part.

Other people do.

People pay ridiculous money for personal access to politicians. That’s totally different than a book tour, as usually authors do these as part of a promotional tour for free. You can’t compare this to a concert or dinner with the president.

I’m going to disagree. This is directly comparable to dinner with the president – you’re paying to spend time with one of the leading politicians in the country, to hear them speak, and potentially ask questions. That it’s being framed as a book talk rather than a dinner is mostly just window dressing.

I can also see it being compared to a concert, in the sense of amount spent for an evening’s entertainment…although this isn’t how I’d want to be entertained during an evening.

Of course, considering that I’ve spent considerably more for concert tickets…

Usually includes an awful lot of authors who have very tiny audiences for their books. I often see them doing free signings if their books at Costco or Indigo.

David Sedaris is doing a book tour for his new book ā€œThe Best of Meā€. $45 to $75 for tickets.

This seems a bit different, but charges for the book tour and drinks. https://boozybooktour.square.site/

Somewhat more pricey for this book tour with some guy from Blink-182. How To Buy Mark Hoppus Book Tour Tickets Online 2025: Best Deals

Looking around on this, often book tours are free, but if the author is popular and demand is high, there may be a charge at events, particularly if they have to go offsite from the book store.

I’d say this qualifies, but if you want to argue not a D feel free

Uh, ā€œsocially moderateā€??

Beyond a book tour example, I’d say I’d put this more on par with an autograph signing than dinner with the president. Sometimes places charge for autograph signings, but they are often free or a nominal charge.

And totally pro worker and for the little man.

I think she got the timeline wrong.
1790 - 1945 Dem is what MAGA is in many respects.

Maybe there’s a reason why he’s having all the famous right wing nutcases on his podcast.

People are allowed their opinions even if they’re very wrong. If they think they’re a pro-Trump leftist who loves all of Trump’s leftist policies, can’t fix stupid.

You can call Trump pro-worker and socially moderate just as easily from an American living room as you can from a Russian troll farm.

Jasmine Crockett is a hot-ass mess.

He’s had that nickname for years, and he’s such a trash human he deserves way worse imo.

Does that mean I am not a bad person for being mildly amused?

:face_with_raised_eyebrow: he … calls himself that?

Could it be one of those things where he’s allowed to call himself that, but non-disabled folks aren’t?

Not trying to pick a fight, just trying to understand nickname etiquette in situations like this, as this would be news to me if it’s a thing.

People have been using that nickname for him for many years. Yes, it’s a cheap dig at his physical condition. I’m not a fan of mocking folks like that either, but imo it’s about one millionth as offensive as all the intentionally cruel stuff that guy has done over the years. The feigned outrage about her comment rings pretty hollow after all the hurtful crap Republicans say on a daily basis, so forgive me if I can’t even play the tiniest of violins for this guy.

Dislike that she did this.

That said, it’s exhausting when this becomes big news, while Musk can go online and call people r*tards and pedophiles and it’s a Wednesday.

Not defending Crockett for an offensive comment, but there’s a double standard.
