Democrats Say the Darndest Things!

Interesting…the miscarriage rate in the US is 10-20% of pregnancies, so I think this is relatively rare.

Bullish for Russian bonds, Russian currency, Russian vodka, Russian nesting dolls, … Russian everything.

Agreed. I’ve known people to have about 5? miscarriages altogether, and it’s not like I go around asking. Have never heard of a funeral for one. At most something like a Facebook post asking to donate to a charity in their honor.

I think it’s only done with later term pregnancies that result in miscarriage, so a tiny percent of miscarriages. Which lends credence to the idea that the further along a pregnancy the more fully human the fetus is.

The idea is there is a point where we (society) start to treat fetuses as humans, and there is already a pretty big gap between the line where we think abortion is OK and where we think it makes sense to have a funeral for miscarriage. Obviously personal beliefs will vary.

Note: this started as a response to a post where fetuses being “alive” was a nutjob view.

How late? After 20 weeks is a stillbirth, not a miscarriage.

Oh, I didn’t know there was a cutoff for when a pregnancy terminating was called a miscarriage. I guess they were stillbirths according to that definition.

One was in the 7th month and the other was in the 9th month.

What, exactly, does the rarity (or popularity) of an event have to do with someone believing something to be true?

I’ve heard many on the left cry out that “popular vote” should be the determining factor for elections and policy determination . . . until policies they disagree with turn up.

I can’t speak for the mother but I have found as a father and grandfather that my emotional attachment to the fetus grows in the last few months as there is response (kicking, etc.) from the growing fetus. It seems more human at that stage. Not a scientific observation but an emotional one.

This does not compute. Please don’t turn your back on democracy because you don’t like the Left.

I’ve been to 1. My gf in college lost her turtle and buried it under a chapel. Her bff recited in Time of Daffodils. I’ve also seen pet graves, pet stone markers, and pet ashes.

Given how few people I know personally, I’m going to guess that pet-funerals are extremely common. And I’m going to guess that fetus funerals are also. They just aren’t public.

It’s just a measure of how the collective society views/reacts to something. Actions speak louder than words and all that. We don’t treat fetuses as people. It’s not even close.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet pal.

It has nothing to do with whether or not I like the Left. There are many policies of the Left that I favor, and other policies that while I disagree with, will honor democracy in action.

As for “computation” . . . do you follow state politics much?

Okay. I thought you were saying you disagreed with representative democracy.

Nope. Sounds even worse than national.

I can’t explain why anyone cares how they dress…

My own kid, now 6, just wrote a story in which the fairy queen demanded that all fairy girls wear dresses and all fairy boys wear shirts and pants. Seemed weirdly on point to be purely random. Maybe she’s sneaking downstairs to listen to Fox News after bedtime.

I’m an equal opportunity bagger. Hence, I present Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT … but caucusing with the Democrats) with his ideas for improving airline delays.

Flight-Delays-Letter-Final.pdf (senate.gov)

The ideas are … aside from not really solving anything, this is only going to drive up airline tickets to the point driving in your personal vehicle is more affordable. I’m sure that won’t have consequences, though.

I don’t think that Bernie understands why the airline industry is in the situation it is today.

If the actions Bernie suggests are implemented, the first thing that is likely to happen is that passengers will get hit with (substantial) fees for changes and no option for full refunds for a passenger-initiated cancellation.

I’m just thinking about the poor bastard at Bloomington Central Illinois Regional trying to get to Seattle who booked with American, which means they would have gone to Chicago or Dallas, and now American says “hey, we’ve got alternate transportation lined up, here you go, you’re not our problem now” and the alternate travel is either Delta to Atlanta (and hope there’s a direct flight to Seattle and not connecting legs through say Phoenix), or bus to Chicago to Amtrak out to Portland for 3 days to bus up to Seattle.

I’m sure that won’t be a problem for that poor bastard, though. They’re totally flexible on getting out to Seattle in possibly 4 days, right?
