8/7/2021 - MAGNIFYING GLASSES
When a pitcher of juice is three-sevenths full it contains exactly enough juice to fill 12 identical glasses. How full would the pitcher be if it had exactly enough juice to fill 21 of the same glasses?

Go from letter to letter horizontally, vertically, or diagonally in this grid to trace a continuous closed path that does not cross itself. The path uses all 25 letters and spells out five common five-letter words that begin with consecutive letters of the alphabet. What are the five words?

3/7 * 21/12 = 3/7 * 7/4 = 3/4

Correct!

8/7

I solved it by saying that (3/7) / 12 = 1 full glass. If I want 21 full glasses, just multiply that by 21, and you get 3/4.
The official solution did the opposite - it did 12 / (3/7) to show that the pitcher could hold 28 glasses. We want 21 glasses, so 21/28=3/4.

Nope, you got it exactly right. I’m sure I’ve heard the bonus word before, but it’s definitely not a word I would have been able to come up with on my own.

It’s used commonly in crosswords, but I didn’t get it (to use in solving) until I filled out the rest.

I know the word, it just seemed an odd choice

eider way, you got the right answer PZ.

You see what I did there?

Summary

bonus word IMAM - a religious leader of Muslim communities, and one I’ve seen in many crosswords.

Couldn’t get it at first, until I saw the “extend before or after” instruction.

Summary

Darn it. I misunderstood the instructions in exactly the way I misunderstood them last time - thinking each word started with consecutive letters. The only consecutive letters I found were TU.

8/10/2021 - TREASURES (incorrectly listed initially as 8/9)
Locate hidden treasures in 12 of the empty cells of this grid. The numbers outside the grid indicate how many treasures there are in each row or column. Each arrow points directly toward one or more of the treasures. An arrow may be immediately next to a treasure it points to, or it may be farther away. Not every treasure will necessarily have an arrow pointing to it. Can you locate the 12 treasures?
