That actually makes me happy because that’s what I thought when I saw the actual picture!
I had trouble with the same two pictures, but I looked at what words I felt good about and what I needed to connect them, then figured the words out from the pictures.
Summary
I had boat and moat instead of ship and fort. Since there was the one-letter difference between them, that really threw me off and it took me a while to work out they had to be wrong.
And I had no idea that that was a cork. My screen doesn’t seem to have enough resolution for me to see what was on it.
Summary
And before you point out that there is no moat, yeah, I just jumped to the word once I thought I had boat.
Yeah, I probably made that top middle image too small. Sorry!
8/4/2021 - PLACE YOUR CHIPS
Put poker chips worth $5, $10, or $25 on the squares of this grid - but no more than one chip per square - so that their dollar values total the amount shown for each row, column, and long diagonal. Not every square will have a chip on it. Several chips and one blank square (designated by a star) have been placed to get you started.
Correct!
8/5/2021 - MIXED COMPANY
Find anagrams for the words in each quartet so that all four words become items in a common category. It’s up to you to determine the category for each set. Can you figure them out?
- DREAD, CAROB, SPA, GARRET
- RAIN, SERIAL, YASIR, MOAN
- CORKY, SWING, CHARS, STOPLIGHT
- MESHER, EARS, SHADE, SUEZ
Got tired of staring at the 3rd set. It’s a tough category, I’ll be really impressed with whoever gets it.
Agree, stuck on the 3rd. 1,2&4 for the time being…
8/5
adder, cobra, asp, garter → types of snakes
iran, israel, syria, oman → middle eastern countries
hermes, ares, hades, zeus → greek gods
Yup, you’re pretty much where I was at before I gave up.
For #1 I had the first and third words, so I knew the category. Had to google the category because I couldn’t figure out the other two, but then quickly figured them out.
For #2, I’ve never heard of the last word but I was able to get the others.
With 3 words having only 1 vowel I feel like it should be easy…but I can’t connect anything I’ve come up with so far.
I’ll give you the category as a hint, but I don’t think it will help (it wouldn’t have helped me).
8/5 hint for category 3
The category is “Best Pictures”
Oh wow.
According to scrabble anyway, there’s only one anagram of each of these so the words are theoretically straightforward. I still don’t think I would have ventured towards movie titles naturally though. The 2nd one is definitely a curveball. From 1927! The ‘first’ best picture recipient. Who knows that??
I agree! That’s why I said I’d be impressed with anyone who got it.
8/5
Summary
- ADDER, COBRA, ASP, GARTER
- IRAN, ISRAEL, SYRIA, OMAN
- ROCKY, WINGS, CRASH, SPOTLIGHT
- HERMES, ARES, HADES, ZEUS
I definitely needed the hint for #3. I had the first 2, but couldn’t think of a connection without it.
Correct!
My guess for Category 3 after getting the words was Things to do with Search and Rescue Aircraft
I would have never guessed the real category
The last word in that category took me the longest by far, but the first three words I thought were fairly straightforward to unscramble. I also struggled to unscramble “MESHER” but got all the other ones pretty quickly.
8/6/2021 - CRISS-CROSS MATH
Place the digits 1 to 9 into the empty cells so that the three rows across and three columns down form correct arithmetic statements. All calculations involve only positive whole numbers and should be performed from left to right and top to bottom, ignoring mathematical order of operations.
