What I’ve learned from commercials: Caucasian men are stupid and can’t do anything correctly.
Matt Damon talking about how “fortune favors the brave” as he’s pitching crypto after we’ve had to save his ass in way too many freaking movies.
And mixed-race relationships are the norm.(*) Except white men with non-white women. Those are very rare.
(*) Maybe instead of making two commercials, one featuring white people and one featuring black people, the kill two birds with one stone and make it a black guy and a white woman in a single ad.
Maybe they still make those other two commercials, for advertising in The South. “Know your audience.”
Buick commercial
Man: It’s just up here on the right.
Woman: Of course you know where we’re going. That’s so you…
I mean, c’mon. Really? Did she think he was wandering around aimlessly until he found that swingers club they were going to?
What about “today is Monday.” “You know what day it is, BG? That’s so you.”
You probably could have stopped at Buick commercial.
There’s a skillet commercial in which all the food looks fake and rubbery.
New Harry and David commercial. “A gift as timeless as a mother’s love.”
Um, fresh fruit?
I realize this is old, but I’m just seeing it. I went to a presentation about this and it turns out that they are very effective.
-
Physicians ARE influenced by them.
-
They get the word out that a new treatment is available. Like before Viagra, men with ED just suffered in silence, assuming that nothing could be done. I don’t know how many of them consulted their doctors about treatment options, but I’m guessing the number that did was materially lower than the number who actually had ED.
-
When patients see a doctor and ask for drug X the doctor is more likely to prescribe it. So especially when it’s a choice between Viagra and Cialis, the doctor is more likely to prescribe the one the patient asks for.
I think there was more, but that’s what I recall from the presentation. This was probably at least 10 years ago.
PZ doesn’t seem to realize just how gullible a lot of Americans are.
And, basically, these ads are not for him.
And Rx companies wouldn’t waste that much money if the ads were not effective. They are stock companies, after all, and are pressured to earn profits.
There’s a commercial out now for one of those cars that self park. Guy pulls up to what looks like a western bar/restaurant. Two big pickup trucks are parked there. Outta luck, right? Not for Mr. Douchey. He and his date get out of the car and the car parks itself right in between the two trucks with hardly any room on either side.
Win one for the (no pun intended) little guy? The car company would like you to think so.
But what happens when a couple tries to get into the truck on the left (as seen from behind)? Passenger is out of luck, and the driver will have to pull out so the date can get in. No big deal right? Minor inconvenience.
But what about the driver of the truck on the right? They can even get INTO the driver’s side. They are gonna have to go through the passenger side and crawl all over the from seat.
All b/c Mr Douchey didn’t want to park 30 more feet away.
And another car commercial:
Some smallish SUV is driving through the countryside with a canoe on the roof. And the canoe is one of those old-timey all wood ones, all shined up, so extra bougie.
Several shots show the auto and canoe navigating roads and trails on its way to the ultimate destination, the lake, where Mr. Yuppie can spend some alone time.
But about 2/3 into the clips, they show a glimpse of the sun roof from the inside. But no more canoe! just open sky.
So it’s car/canoe, car/canoe, car canoe, car canoe, car/no canoe, car canoe, car canoe…
Don’t know why, but it bugs me so.
If anyone wants to watch my LDTI commercial on LinkedIn you’re sure to be annoyed.
So 2 people park in spaces where their giant ass trucks can’t fit properly and the 3rd guy is the douche?
Are you also annoyed at the lack of a rear view mirror in many of the tv shots of someone driving a car?
I am.
You can’t see it because the trucks are in the way, but there are signs that say “BIG ASS TRUCK PARKING ONLY”
More brain performance? Yes please!
