Chick-Fil-A, McDonald's, & Starbucks

On a similar note (apologies for web creep) I have become more partial to Walmart, after not setting a foot in a store for 16 years, since they now have a decent minimum wage, allow parking overnight for people living in their cars and supply a lot of the Electrify America charging stations.

After multiple dustups over their Charitable contributions, CFA did change their policies on charities they support. They seem to be intentionally avoiding political causes in recent years.

Maybe. I’ll give them some credit for trying but I don’t think their cow mascot is celebrating pride month or anything.

Ditto for Wal Mart, I think they have become at least somewhat better. I do appreciate them working on the EV chargers! Unsure if that’s good will or just another way to make a buck.

God I love fast food. I always feel like a real piece of trash waiting in line at the drive through to order but once I sink my teeth into a burger and some fries all the problems in the world go away

I think I’m having Arby’s for lunch today

I have only gone into a Walmart as a last resort for the last 15 years. This is usually while on vacation and it’s just about the only option nearby.

Prepackaged groceries are obviously the same as any other store, but i really found no other reason to go there more regularly. Everything just seems like it’s the lowest quality available. I remember when i did shop there, just about everything either died or fell apart shortly after purchase, eroding any savings from shopping there to begin with.

There’s an Arby’s right by my hair dresser and it takes at least 3 hours to get my hair done which frequently includes a mealtime, so I nearly always bring Arby’s in with me. And that’s often the only fast food I’ve had since my previous appointment, but I’m definitely self-conscious that pretty much every single time my hair dresser sees me I’m eating Arby’s.

My sons girlfriends grandpa died around Thanksgiving last year. He had been on a low sodium no sugar diet for 10 years prior to passing so now her grandma has been eating pizza, Arby’s, and McDonald’s every day for dinner. She has already been in the hospital twice for almost having a stroke. She’s like I’m 82 and my husband is already gone, I’m ready go too and I love this food.

Wal Mart is actually quite nice now. They stepped their game up over the last 5 years in our area and especially so since the pandemic. I’m in the Midwest and I think Kroger has kind of gone downhill over the last decade. I’ll go to Meijer and Wal Mart over Kroger now.

I couldn’t bear that. It takes me about two minutes. Three if I’m doing beard, shaving and various other old man hair related pruning.
It’s been a downhill progression. I used to go to a salon. Then I kept my hair shorter so I started going to a barber because they do men’s short hair better. Then covid hit and I dusted off the home clippers. Haven’t looked back.
I appreciate that may not be an option for all goa’ers.

Yeah at that point certainly her choice.

I recall visiting my grandma when she was 88 and I later mentioned to my uncle (who asked me how she seemed) that she spilled her wine at dinner.

My uncle was incredulous. WINE?!?!?! She’s not supposed to be drinking on her medication.

Ok Uncle, but seriously:

  1. No one ever told me she wasn’t supposed to have wine.

  2. She wouldn’t have listened to me if I’d tried to stop it.

  3. I wouldn’t have tried to stop it even had 1 & 2 not been true because that is 100% her choice. If she’d rather have wine with dinner and die at 90 instead of not having wine with dinner and die at 93… that is completely up to her, not me.

Uncle likes his drink and he’s married to an alcoholic (who was even more upset about grandma’s wine than he was) so it seemed incredibly hypocritical.

Very true, although the variance is huge. It is not uncommon for me to drive past the location 0.5 miles from my house to get to the one that’s 4 miles from my house as the 4 mile one is so much better.

It’s certainly a faster round-trip to order online & pick up from the 4 mile location than the 0.5 mile location.

Oh when I’m doing it I put a serum in it, comb it, the end.

But I do pay the stylist to cover the gray. That takes forever, but I post on GoActuary so it’s not so bad.

a governmentally induced minimum wage is a bad idea.

Is it governmentally induced? I didn’t see anything to suggest that.

IMO, the term ā€œminimum wageā€ implies a legal restriction.

That said, I stumbled over the post because it seemed to imply ā€œstarting wageā€ rather than ā€œminimum wageā€. I’m not actually sure which you meant.

Yes, I meant starting wage, sorry for the confusion. They referred to it as minimum hourly wage in this article, so that’s why I used that term -

Yeah, that’s awkwardly worded IMO.

Agree about the quality variance with Kroger. Here we have both very nice Kroger stores as well as some old dingy ones. The one near me is decent. I generally prefer the adjacent Publix, but there are a few things that Kroger does a little better.
