I noticed that swiftkey (phone texting) is incorporating Bing AI.
This is a totally obvious and sensible application, as LLMs are really just amazing next-word-guessers, same as your phone.
That said, this is going to have weird and immediate social consequences. With your phone literally smarter than the average human, why bother writing a text/email?
If the bot is just one tap away, always ready to improve your communication, why would you insist on doing everything yourself? Let it write emails to your coworkers. Let it text your mom and girlfriend. Shit, let it finish this very post.
All it would take is hitting the next word button rather than swyping myself, and it would be more coherent and more convincing and way more knowledgeable.
Hopefully it’ll not get them confused.

GPT-4 is fucking amazing, and it can do anything, but not everybody knows/understands/wants to use it.
Therefore the first set of apps are just relaying your questions through an API, maybe with some boilerplate prompt addended to provide background.
Want an app that offers legal advice? Diagnoses medical conditions? Checks your tax return?
Identifies edible mushrooms? Creates shakespearean insults of your ex-girlfriend? Writes a choose your own adventure? Tells a lovely interactive story? Practices interviews with you? Gives you a decent therapy session? Gives you practical advice? Reads and writes your correspondence?
Here it is:
Get text. Feed text to GPT-4 API. Get response. Feed back to user.
And if that sounds too hard for you then just ask GPT-4 how to do it.
I expect the next set of apps, which are being worked on right now, will be a lot more interesting, both in terms of automation and prompt engineering.
After asking chatgpt if there was a keyboard shortcut to right-justify selected cells in Excel, it gave me the run around & a bunch of false answers, so I finally told it one way to do it (but I wouldn’t call it a shortcut, just using the keyboard commands to bring up the appropriate menus, hence, why I was looking for a shortcut (you know, like ctrl+b to boldly go where no chat bot has gone before)):

I don’t think AI is going to kill all humans, but I’m becoming more convinced we need UBI to avoid a more violent revolution of humans against humans.
