Bridge: Up for a challenge?

I didn’t exactly know what I was getting into, but I finished 65/1,823 in yesterday’s ACOL challenge. There were minor nuances in the bidding conventions. The most significant I noted were 1 NT was 12-14 HCP, and 1m and 1M both meant 4 of that suit. There were times when I wasn’t sure the proper opening bid and ended up in 1C or 1NT that felt unnatural.

I finished 14th out of 17,672 participants

procrastinator wins big in the regular challenge with +35.25, by 27.50. I win the declare-only (IMPs) with +9.50, by 6.50. Both reissued, NN and JEB_SW out.

I beat AA by 17 and NN by 3. Both reissued (with two challenges issued to AA, by mistake, but I think I’ll be able to play both)

I win the declare-only with 57.81%, by 3.90%. I beat procrastinater by 8. Both reissued, Klaymen and AA out, imps

NN wins the regular challenge with +19.50, by 4.75. Reissued

Win by 20 vs AA over 32 boards. Win by 3 vs NN. Both reissued (only 16 boards each).

Hard to win with results like this

I was reluctant to pass 3D X with only 3, but partner should have had a much better idea of my hand than I had of his. No idea when he passed 3D X when he knows we have 8 spades and almost certainly at most 7 diamonds, with 6 far more likely than 7. From his pass, I figured we surely had 7 diamonds and probably at most 7 spades. -500. Fortunately 4S didn’t make either.

I also don’t understand why LHO doubled 2S when it looks like a very normal 3D overcall.

ETA: No, I screwed up and challenged AA to two more matches. Last time it was BBO’s fault. This time all mine.

I win the declare-only challenge (IMPs) with +15.34, by 14.67. I lose to procrastinator by 5. Both reissued, NN and procrastinator out in the declare-only.

oirg wins the regular group challenge with +20.25, by 20.00. Reissued

oirg wins the declare-only with 57.03%, by 0.78%. I beat AA by 21 over 36 boards and lose to NN by 19. All reissued (finally: only 16 boards vs AA), oirg and JEB_SW out in the declare-only.

Lose to procrastinator by 10. Reissued

I’d like to pause from challenges, thx.

procrastinator wins the regular challenge with +12.50, by 10.75. Reissued

procrastinator wins the declare-only with 60.16%, by 7.03%. I beat AA by 17 and NN by 18. All reissued, with only procrastinator sitting out in the declare-only (Klaymen being paused).

Lose to procrastinator by 32. Reissued.

I win the regular challenge with +17.25, by 4.50. I lose to NN by 18 and beat AA by 10. All reissued.

Preliminary 61.06% in the July Country vs Country championship. In part thanks to preliminary 87.2% for an absolutely terrible contract that fortunately made.

I win the declare-only with 59.38%, by 1.57%. Reissued, oirg out

West Des Moines regional update.

Our tiny regional is pretty small so far, being close to July 4 and based on hotel room sales the table count should pick up a bit.

After two days Toby & I won 97.9% of the max points available, winning both 2-session open pairs games but only getting 2nd overall in the 3-table July 4 side game. No doubt this will soon plummet to a more typical level. But we have won bigger 2-session open pairs events in the past that paid out more than all of this so far combined.

Tomorrow is only teams, strangely, and we have a pretty good team.

BTW, this was a push (on different auctions) in a late June challenge with NN.

I don’t know why the BBO notes thinks hearts is a minor.
